Until Broome and subsequently Paul are out, violent crime will only get worse. Criminals in this city are emboldened by the soft policing approach being pushed by leadership.

A dead Alton Sterling is a small price to pay compared to your city devolving into chaos. Animals who commit these heinous acts respond to one thing, violence. You treat them like the pieces of shite that they are and make their lives hell to do anything. Aggressive policing and profiling works.

Honest question. If you choose to live in BR, why? I’ve yet to meet someone who left and ever wants to return. The city has made zero improvements over the years to attract people to it. The only people moving there are relocation families that don’t intend to stay more than a few years and then leave.

At least, under Leduff, under Kip Holden, was able to keep the crime somewhat isolated.

Seriously, it seems like as soon as Broome took over, crime started to rise throughout the whole city. She is a clown.

Said it before, she can murder someone at high noon in front of the courthouse and she will still be elected again cuz she is black and blacks will vote for her for that reason alone.

I disagree. There are blacks who do not like her at all. If you want to blame someone blame the ultra-liberal whites.

You are going to have whites who vote for a white candidate just because they are white and you are going to have blacks who vote for black candidates just because they are black.

But her being a woman, who is black is a unicorn for the ultra liberal whites.

The amount of people who went vote during the runoff was a lot lower than the primary election that was on the same ballot as the presidential race.

That always favors the incumbent. Not to mention, it might help if someone who would be a real threat to her actually ran.

But I guarantee you there were black men who didn't vote for her just because she was a woman, you had white women who voted for her because she was a woman.

College & Jefferson?

Jesus, Baton Rouge really has changed I guess. When I lived on Jefferson Highway in the 90s, the most dangerous thing in that area was poor service at Cafe Americain.

Actually, I take that back. Warrick Dunn’s mother was shot and killed on Jefferson in 1993 if memory serves.

Yeah, what happened to her was awful. Didn't he actually end up going meet the person who shot her, in prison?

Nope, that happened at the Perkins Road Walmart where Trader Joe's is now.

If you say so.

“A quarter-century has passed since Warrick Dunn's mother, Baton Rouge police Cpl. Betty Smothers, was gunned down outside a Jefferson Highway bank, yet the appeals by one of her two convicted killers continue to slowly make their way through the court system.”

Not true. Another police office was killed at that Walmart which is now Trader Joe’s.

Betty Smothers (Warrick Dunn’s mother) was shot and killed off Jefferson Hwy. I believe she was escorting an employee to do a bank deposit.

I lived there because I had a job there. Housing prices weren’t completely unreasonable, I could live within a 20 minute commute to work while still being in a safe neighborhood. I had friends and family all fairly close by. I had a great network of bars, restaurants, and stores which I frequented. I own a house there with a big beautiful back yard. I was very comfortable in BR.

Is the crime frustrating?
Is the inept government aggravating?
Is the traffic insane?

Yes to all 3, although I tended to be isolated from the former and latter.

I rarely felt bored (except during covid), always had bands to see or places to socialize with friends.

Most of the problems that I faced in BR are the same problems in most any city where I could reasonably find a job.

I just recently moved to New Orleans, so we’ll see how it stacks up.
