My wife's Infiniti accidentally got put in snow mode after an oil change. She thought they broke her car and was about to bring it back since the acceleration was terrible. I found the fancy knob and turned it back to normal for the win.

I drive around in sport mode in my F-150. Love the response on the throttle. Love hearing the twin turbo.

But mainly I use it because it's the only mode that doesn't enable the automatic engine shut off. Can't stand that shite.

I used "sport" a lot because "normal" used shifting logic that was obsessed with fuel economy (and I'm not)

Some sport modes are sportier than others though. I guess for cars like the 911 that can be daily driven it’s nice to have softer suspension damping

In my old LX, in town its always on Comfort, but immediately get flipped the other way to Sport on the interstate. I appreciate it being a marshmallow around town but driving a 6,000lb marshmallow through the mountains is a hair-raising experience.

There is a noticeable difference between the settings, especially steering.

Hitting a reflector on I10 at 120 feels like being shot with a cannon in most track cars.

My Tundra is much more responsive off the line in tow/haul mode

I just wish Sport mode was the first instead of last when you hit the button to cycle through the modes.

My car automatically starts in "ECO" mode, which means the engine shuts off whenever I come to a complete stop, which is a pain in the arse. So I always turn it off. I occasionally use the "sport" mode if I'm trying to zip past traffic.

I do. I have a few suspension modes and I use the good ones on the appropriate roads.

Like yea I just dropped 200k on a Porsche GT3 RS and I will be using the normal mode.

Have you driven one? It's a very bumpy ride even in normal mode. There's a good reason for that mode in daily driving. Not that many people have a GT3 for daily driving. It's a track car.

it ll depends. On an F150 it'll change transmission profiles and possibly timing advance. My Tundra only has normal and tow, but it's 12 years old. On the GTR i can adjust suspension, trans and VDC independently. Comfort mode doesn't do shite, its still bumpy but race suspension mode stiffens it up quite a bit. The transmission changes are incredibly noticeable and change how fast and hard it shifts. The VDC in race mode lets the car get a little farther out before kicking in, and turning it off makes it want to kill you.

I use the performance setting usually. Way more responsive, higher RPMs, stiffer suspension, way more fun

That's my point. I get having a sport mode on a normal 911 or an S or a Turbo.

A GT3RS is a pretty hardcore track focused car that isn't really intended for city or daily driving. It shouldn't have a "normal" mode

I think ECO mode and snow/wet mode are all about throttle response.

Basically, keeps the revs in check as you accelerate.

For example, in Normal mode, your throttle position to reasonably accelerate to 45 mph might be 40%. In ECO Mode, the throttle positional might need to be 60% to achieve the same thing. Snow might be 80%, Sport, 20%.

I don't know if I would call it a "mode" per se but my Land Rover Discovery II has a crawl gear in the transfer case and also a center locking differential with a high and low gear as well. I've used it plenty. I used it just a few weeks ago to pull a tree stump out that I had uprooted with my backhoe(tlb) . Backhoe couldn't even pull it out because it didn't have enough traction.

It also has Hill Descent Control which I obviously don't use in Southeast Louisiana since we don't have hills. It basically uses the ABS to modulate the brakes for an automated, controlled descent. It also has a Sport and Manual modes associated with the transmission. Sport increases the shift points and Manual keeps it locked into whatever gear you select on the gear selector. 1, 2, 3. I've never used these modes.
