The FV4201 Chieftain was the primary main battle tank (MBT) of the United Kingdom from the 1960s into the 1990s. Introduced in 1967, it was among the most heavily armed MBTs at the time, mounting a 120 mm Royal Ordnance L11 gun, equivalent to the much larger specialist heavy tanks in service. It was also among the most heavily armoured, with up to 195 mm (7.7 in) that was highly sloped to offer 388 mm (15.3 in) thickness along the line of sight.

As always, great looking build there DV.
Question. What is the larger section at the middle of the barrel? An expansion joint?
Damn, already two downvotes before the ink even dried. There's some weird folks on here.

That’s the bore evacuator. Basically, it keeps the excess smoke and gas from firing the main gun from backdrafting back into the turret.

Great work! Wow! That is a seriously long barrel. Thanks for sharing.

I believe it was the first Western tank to be equipped with a 120mm main gun. At the time the Chieftain was first introduced, most Western tanks had either a 90mm or 105mm main gun.

Awesome. I’m glad I sparked your curiosity.

Thanks for sharing this Darth.
I look forward to seeing your quality synopses and Kraftwerk* here.
Even mid-70s Limey stuff, your builds of their stuff is probably better than their original quality was.
Them having Lucas Electrics on a MBT means it’s service is limited (at best) to only daylight hours.

Their Leyland L60 engines were their biggest Achilles heel.
Nice build Darth! Did you know original Chieftains had a 12.7mm ranging machine gun which was eventually was replaced my a more modern Barr and Stroud LF-2 laser rangefinder.
Currently working on Meng 1/48th F-4G Phantom II Wild Weasel in european 1 or lizard paint scheme. Meng models fit together so well, highly recommend.

Awesome model. About 20 years ago, I went to a Tank museum in Munster Germany that had an amazing collection of tanks from WWi up through modern era tanks such as the Leopard on display. It was amazing to see a King Tiger tank live and in person, along with several panzers. One even had dings in front armor from battle where it looked like someone took a large ice cream scoop and scooped out some metal in the front of the tank. They also had some soviet era tanks and APCs. They did not unfortunately have a T72.

Another masterpiece. Where do you display these? It must be a HUGE room. Sometime you need to post some pics of your complete collection.

Was the ranging MG Mounties directly atop the main gun?

Straight out of the box Tamiya 1:35 kit. I believe this is one of their older kits as the hull was designed to house a small battery powered drive motor, something. I think they stopped decades ago.
As for paints, nothing more than Tamiya acrylic NATO Green and flat black.

I’ve been off since last Thursday, so I had some extra free time on my hands.

It’s not all that big, my son’s old bedroom before he grew up and moved out. It’s where I store, build, and display them all.
