We've never had a problem leaving him. I'd say we've reached those milestones before most parents. At 2 months he spent 2 nights with the in-laws while we were at a wedding and has done it multiple times since. We moved when he was 3 months, and I worked 6 hours away for those 1st 3 months, so I was away for nights at a time regularly. I've just never had to say "hey, you take care of the little turd factory while I go enjoy myself for 7 days". I know a vacation is supposed to be about me, but it just seems odd as we haven't done anything like that. We've done it when it was needed, not just for our own personal enjoyment.

I brought a 15-month old to Hawaii once...once. Not exaggerating when I say it was my least favorite trip ever.

We do both. Did skiing in big Sky earlier in the year. We'll probably stick to one for us (wife and I) and one for family each year.

You joke, but we dropped our son off with my parents before going to Jazz Fest. Next to us at one of the stages was a lady with what couldn't have been older than a 3 month old in one of those baby harness things .

This sounds like a solid idea.

The beach and pool are real fun when they are that age.

Not so much fun for the other guests when Junior shits in the pool.

We have the added problem of having to pay to fly family in to watch him, and they have to be able to take vacation from work. Our son has been on flights and some small trips and has been damn near perfect, so we're hoping to continue the streak. With me traveling for work, I prefer to have him around as much as possible anyway while I'm home.

Just drive down the road to galveston. Then turn around and go home.

Beach is easiest option. Try to stay away from the high rise condos, you'll be back and forth to the room a lot and will have to carry a lot more stuff.

San Diego would be a good spot

Weather is nice
Short flight from Houston
Fairly enexoensive and family friendly

Try an all inclusive resort in Mexico or the carribean. They may have nannys in staff.

Would you really leave a 1 year old with a nanny in Mexico?

My mom would be ecstatic.

You know how many kids Mexicans have? It would be like having michael Phelps give you swimming lessons

The only big downside to traveling with them at that age is the naps they require to maintain some semblance of normalcy until 8 or 9 PM. If you're expecting to see every major landmark, museum, and historical sight in a big city in 5 days, slow your horses, it's not happening.

I second the all inclusive resort idea-- we took our son to Malta, Croatia, Cyprus, and Greece all before his second birthday. Not sure about A/I resorts on this side of the pond, but there, we didn't have to pay anything for him to go.

We took our 2 year old to San Diego it was a blast. Key West, same. We just got back from a week in Colorado with a 1 year old and 3 year and it was awesome though that's not really an option when you are looking to go.

Good for you. Whatever you do hope you enjoy it, just don't get roped into the Disney trap.

I don't understand the mentality that experiences are only worthwhile if they are remembered. Most of us don't remember well or at all 99% of the fun stuff we've done, but the experiences brought us enjoyment at the time and were worthwhile in those moments for their own sake.

Either the kid gets sold, or drugs are stashed in its diapers for the trip back.

As others have said, an extended vacation with a 1 yr old is an ear infection away from disaster. Congrats on the sects.

For a little fun. Leave mom at home to take a nap. Take Junior to the mall or the zoo. All the bitches go crazy for an little baby. Tell them his mom is a crazy, estranged stripper. They will bend over to show you and Junior the boobs. Don't give them your real number.

When you get home, your wife will thank you profusely for the nap. Talk about how hard it was.

My son is almost two. Last summer we rented a beach house with a pool in Fort Morgan, AL. By far the easiest thing we ever did. He wasn't crazy about the sand so the little bit of time at the beach was ok, but the access to the pool was great. The drive being somewhat short also was a big deal.

Backyard with a cardboard box. Cheap and no travel or expense.
