The kid was offered free American flags to display on his vehicle. He refused. I don’t think this has anything to do with him “honoring America”

reads in part, "The contract, which has been in place in all three of the high schools for over a decade, prohibits student drivers from flying large flags or banners on their vehicles, due to their potential to distract or obstruct the view of student drivers as they are navigating the school parking lot

Horrible verbiage in the contract, define "large"

If the student had a topper on their truck it would be just as obstructive.

the parking lot is an extension of school. They absolutely can demand you wear a school uniform, and if you come in jeans and a t shirt they can demand you change or suspend you. And wearing jeans and a t shirt isn’t against the law

This has nothing to do with a parked vehicle.

And no, it’s discriminatory because as a parent I can put a flag on my truck go to the same parking lot and they can’t do shite.

Yes, a visiting parent is usually treated differently from an enrolled student.

Code of conduct and dress codes usually do not apply in the same way.

I’ve never discussed inside building or dress code. The issue is a non moving vehicle in a public parking lot.

It is school property.

Usually the dress code and code of conduct apply anywhere on the school grounds.

The school owns the property? It’s not tax funded property?

Even if kid was in the truck and cops came up, he can ignore them since he’s not breaking laws.

A child unsupervised on school property isn't breaking the rules or the "law?"

The school isn't a private entity. It is a public entity and can set rules for code of conduct, behavior, etc.

You are going to have to show me a case law where students are constitutionally allowed to carry the American flag or gay flag with them while in school.

Here’s where pride and all the other good little bundists out themselves. The way it’s supposed to work in America is rights are granted to the people and governmental authority is ceded to them by the people. Rights aren’t retained by the government and dribbled out to its citizens as it sees fit. So, the burden is on you to show why the government has the authority to bar this kid from displaying an American flag in the parking lot. Not a classroom. The parking lot.

It’s telling how all the goose-steppers approach topics like this. They always place the burden of proof on private citizens to prove they have rights. Not once will they ever question governmental power. Instead, like here, they will wholeheartedly support it.

If in the past, 10 years or so, there was an incident that proved a distraction to the school because of these oversized flags.

Would that be enough?

How are some public schools able to require uniforms? Doesn’t that conflict with certain rights?

I went to highschool in Bedford County, VA

This is surprising because Bedford County really is baw country. When I was in highschool (graduated 2012), kids in my class regularly had the confederate flag flying on their truck.

I thought this was an issue about freedom of speech. The first amendment isn't limited to patriotic displays.

Trying to look for the school, there are 3 high schools in that county. If I knew which one I’d look on their website for their policies regarding parking passes. I bet they can’t suspend a parking pass because of flags and it isn’t in their book.

I love this.

USMC veteran here and an American flag isn’t a problem.

We live in this country and every single country on earth flies its flags but yet, some folks have gotten to the point to cave to weak minded people.

If you are bothered by a country’s flag, please toughen up. Life is already hard enough without you crying about a flag.

This country is the reason you have the ability to do what you wanna do
