I also jut read that the USW didn't order any 24hr notice to any more facilities...that was of about 20hrs ago.
As in the extensions will continue?
I think next weekend is critical. Motiva/Shell Port Arthur's contract will expire, which is the largest US refinery.

Like I stated earlier the plant I worked out would ship in a skeleton crew from a non union plant to run things until the strike was over. Management still would come to work and so could our maintenance crews union or not. That was the wording in the contract in case of a strike. And all plant workers got $100 a week until strike was over.

Well then get out of the union, yal are extremely well compensated for what yal do, this includes nonunion operators. And dont try and give me BS bc I am in the industry.
At some of the union plants, i.e. XOM Baton Rouge, the wage personnel are "Represented Employees" whether they're in the union or not. You can hire in and never pay dues but you're still represented by the union. They have a choice whether or not they join the union but they're still lumped in with the hardcore union workers.

Union rejects contract offer from oil cos in U.S. refinery strike
quote:
Union negotiators on Thursday rejected the latest contract offer from oil companies and said the largest U.S. refinery strike since 1980 may spread to more plants beyond the 11 where walkouts are underway.
The United Steelworkers union (USW) said in a message to members and news media including Reuters that the latest proposal from lead oil company negotiator Royal Dutch Shell Plc failed to improve safety at refineries and chemical plants in an "enforceable way."
The union also told workers not on strike to be prepared to walk out in the coming days.
"New offer fails to improve safety in enforceable way," the USW said in the text message. "All units instructed to reject and prepare to join (unfair labor practices) strike if called upon. Union at table ready to bargain."

I haven't been following closely, but where did all of this being about "safety" come from?
Unions are garbage and its time for them to go away or at least overhaul the current system.

It's called a right to work. Thanks to Eddy that screwed the Unions here in Louisiana.

Another ill informed person.

Athey shitty thing is that shell already conforms and follows the safety standard the union is pushing for, but not the others.
What's happening at other sites, it say if you work 7days in a row you have to take 2 days off mandatory. You work Monday through Friday but when you get off work Monday morning the job was completed, what they are doing is converting all the overtime you worked into straight time hours and sending you home with no pay for two days. Even though you going home is of no fault of your own.
The no enforceable fatigue policy is one of the major hangups at the moment.
The money and signing bonus people were bitching about on here has been off the table for awhile. That was just fluff and the signing bonus was offered by the company.

Stop being an ignorant a-hole! We have families and bills just like everyone else. Some of us are expecting children at the moment and now have zero health insurance. What are we to do now? Do you have answer for that? Now I'm stuck between a rock and shard place to try and make ends meet and hope for the best without blowing through my savings.
We as "union" workers want to work but we have no choice in the matter. Like some one stated earlier, union or not you have to walk.

Why do you have to walk? I honestly don't understand how that works.
Posted on 2/21/15 at 6:30 am to Janky
Because we are a union facility. No matter if your union or not you walk with everyone.
Posted on 2/21/15 at 6:32 am to MeatHammer09
So, you don't have to walk you choose to walk? Doesn't make sense to me. Why can't you stay at work and keep collecting a paycheck?

You can hire in and never pay dues but you're still represented by the union. They have a choice whether or not they join the union but they're still lumped in with the hardcore union workers.
Represented employees (wage earners) will not be allowed in the plant when the strike begins. Non-represented employees (salary employees) will be locked in and will assume the posts of the represented employees who are locked out.

Oh, so they are literally not allowed to work by the plant. Gotcha.
