The training has already occurred. The engineers take the place of operators in the case of a strike.

What does that mean exactly "lock out"?
Like if you're a union member on strike you can't cross the line?

yeah.
I don't see a single plant/refinery not locking people out, seems like that would be a liability issue.

The employees out of a job have a choice in the matter.
But keep riding the USW train with Gary until yall all are selling your stuff on la sportsman and craigslist.

No they don't, unless during the strike they seek employment elsewhere.

Well then get out of the union, yal are extremely well compensated for what yal do, this includes nonunion operators. And dont try and give me BS bc I am in the industry.

This seems like a crap deal for the emplyeee, TBH.
If you go to work at a union plant, I would imagine you are pretty much forced to join the Union, wether you want to or not.
Then, if they strike, it's probably tough to cross the line.
Meanwhile, you're just trying to make a living.
May not be correct in my thinking, IDK.

Can anyone tell me what the union wants? Better wages? I have not followed this at all.

Higher wages/ better health ins. (Lower premiums)

I know if Convent or Norco goes on strike no one can cross the picket line. They do not allow contractors not even associated with operations to go to work. So this affects everyone that is not staff personnel that works at these two locations. Personally i think it is pretty crappy that I can't go to work while the union tries to get more money for these operators. They stop everyone from making money so they can hold the refinery up for a raise.

A lockout is the company saying if you don't sign the contract offered you can't come to work. Basically a forced strike.

Union or not, you have to walk. There is no say so in the matter.

From my understanding this is not the case. Local terms are already agreed to. I believe it has more to do with the union demands on contractor arrangements, fatigue management, and safety representation.
I work for one of the 24hr rolling extensions, but I don't know the exact details. If they strike, I work at home. But I feel bad for those that want to go to work and are fine under the existing contract.

Pretty sure some contractors are locked in such as certified welders, crane operators, scaffolding, pipefitters, etc.
No one usually crosses a picket line until an injunction is granted by the state to set the rules on picketing.

It is. You can choose to not work at a union plant/refinery, but then you limit your options pretty significantly.

You're not forced, but everyone will know who you are. You also get 0 added benefits from not being in it other than not paying $100+/mo in dues b/c even if they do strike you aren't allowed in the refinery/plant anyway.

When somebody is offered a job by Shell, they're taking it. The benefits and pay are too good. If there's any pause to question the union thing, it might last for a minute.

I agree.

I agree also. I was hesitant about the union thing but benefits, retirement and opportunities are too great to pass up a job of this caliber. I guess you take the good with the bad.
I also jut read that the USW didn't order any 24hr notice to any more facilities...that was of about 20hrs ago.

I agree re: Shell.
I'd still be anti-Union, but I'd be in the Union at Shell.![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)
