USS Kidd to fire guns today

Anyone downtown between 1 and 3 pm may get to see the Kidd firing blanks from it's guns on the Port Allen side. Filming for Tom Hanks movie Greyhound.

I remember the Kidd firing her guns back in 1991 during a mock attack by some "Zeros" during an event commemorating the 50th anniversary of Pearl Harbor. They were pretty loud. Any other baws there that day?

Yea they don't do the mock dog fights anymore for 4th of July. But they still do a flyover and fire the guns. It's pretty cool.
When I was maybe 8-10 yrs old in 1984 or so, they went all out with the mock battle. I remember a machine gun nest/battery set up on the river bank(BR side and you could up on the levee behind them and watch them fire at planes over head. That left an indelible image in my brain as a kid. BAD arse!
