what group do you speak of, exactly?

The pandering to a group that represents 13% of the population is hilarious.

Why can't we reimagine him as black? Why can't a non white person play when there plenty of brits of color?
There is no legitimate reason for not having different people play theseFICTIONAL roles

*Still really pissed they may cast Idris Ilba in that role and I am a huge fan of his work.
Why? James bond can absolutely be black. Elba will kill it as 007.
James bond can not, however, be a woman. Sorry Charlize.

James Bond isn't a code name.

Because James Bond is a rich orphan from an upper class British family with an estate in the country side. He went to top notch boarding schools, which explains his culture, and was a Commander in the Royal Navy. He is a white dude. Create a black super agent character if you want but it isn't this one.
Arguing that he is fictional and it doesn't matter is like dropping a white kid into Boyz In The Hood. You could do it but it would be unrealistic and wrong.

i don't particularly care about James Bond, but he's a white character. why do we have to "re-imagine" him?
you'd be totally cool with turning the Black Panther into a white person, right? no issues with white washing characters?

Not true. Only 3% of Britain's population is black. 86% white.

f you want to showcase blacks in American history, then sounds like we need black directors to find the best stories and make films about them.
All you need to do is find good stories about heroic blacks just as they did in the film about the Red Tails or in the story about the navy diver that lost a leg.
There are great stories about blacks, you don't have to make them up.

Well Brian, I think "Birth of a Nation" and "A league of Their Own" were just fake news.

White people already turned the Pink Panther into a white guy. White people have to steal everything.

Not the same, they don't have the same cultural and racial significant. False equivalents. Not even remotely the same.
Why not reimagine him? What cultural significant does he have? It's not like they are making the king of England from 1567 black or Puerto Rican
It's literally taking a fake made up character and the trumplicans start melting like snowflakes.
This is not Hollywood reimagining Egyptians as white men, which is much more offensive because it's an historical and factual LIE. But hey, you're a snowflake if you're bothered by the continued distortion of history

So in regards to the OP, is Dunkirk wrong for their lack of diversity?

it is the same you're just adding qualifiers to distance yourself from your prejudice

Why not reimagine him?
it makes no real sense. he's a classic character with a certain history that only makes sense if he's white
why re-imagine an established character when you're talking about fiction and can create a new one instead?

Black Panther is fake and made up, too, yet you would take offense if he was re-imagined

they were closer to white than black (at least for most of Egypt. there was a period when the Nubians were its rulers).

Both types of genomic material showed that ancient Egyptians shared little DNA with modern sub-Saharan Africans. Instead, their closest relatives were people living during the Neolithic and Bronze ages in an area known as the Levant. Strikingly, the mummies were more closely related to ancient Europeans and Anatolians than to modern Egyptians.

"Ancient Egyptians were black" is one of the great lies of our time.

There actually is a legitimate reason. If the creator of the character maintains rights over the character and chooses to have the films be true to the character created, then no one can change that character.
I have no problem with Idris and would like to see him play a James Bond-type role. I think he'd be great at it. But, let someone else create that character.
