That article is from 2014. He likely went to jail and paroled and then broke his parole.

Still...very impressive given his situation. living off the land out there is pretty impressive.

He wasn't living off rabbits and squirrels. He had somebody bringing him supplies. FACT.

He picked the easiest time of the year. Try June-September.

One mile in isn’t “deep in the swamp”…that’s a walk to the deer stand.

This really depends on the swamp. Some places that 1 mile can kick your arse.

Absolutely. The percentage of guys that get arrested on Louisiana Law from shrimp boats is high as hell.

From what I heard where he was found was probably only a couple hundred yards off of a gravel road.

Or he pulled out a bunch of cash and was just walking a mile to a Dollar General where the minimum wage worker who hates their job didn't know who he was.

This seems likely. He was convicted in 2016 and was recently supposed to be living off Nicholson in Gardere based on the sexual offender registry.

what an idiot.
If you didn't want to get caught, then you'd go to the Canadian wilderness, or at the very least somewhere in north LA South Arkansas where there are hardly any people living but plenty of forests with waterways to live off of.
And hike in and dig your shelter so it's mostly hidden. Suck it up and make a few long trips where you have to bring in plenty of supplies to get everything together.

I would think the Atchafalaya basin, the only accessible by boat portion, would be better to hide out in. A baw could find some pretty romote parts with a pirogue, but you would be at the mercy of river stage in the spring.
