Why do two educated people need to get married?

The question to this statement: is marriage intrinsically a terrible investment and unneccessary to live a fruitful life, or has it become so due to societal incentives and norms?

To have children. That is the point of marriage.

Statistically speaking, they have a higher success rate

Educated people with good genetics need to get married and have kids if we want to maintain our society. Unfortunately, these educated people, for various reasons, aren't having (as many) kids because they are financially responsible.

The dregs of society are not responsible and are breeding like rabbits in comparison. A demographic tidal wave is incoming.

Nah. Those people who are now choosing not to get married are the same ones a decade ago who would have just gotten married then gotten divorced a few years down the road. It's good that people are starting to realize that marriage is a huge commitment, and if you're not 100% in it for the long haul it's better to just stay unmarried. It's becoming more socially acceptable to stay single until your late 30's or 40's now before deciding to get married, and that's a great thing. Most people are not even close to done maturing by the time they're 20-27

1. Economics: millenials can't afford to get married because they struggle to find good entry level jobs and are being crushed by student loan debt

2. Guys have wised up that women initiate most divorces, and 90% of divorces where both are college educated

3. Divorce laws overwhelmingly favor the wife, even when she makes more
money.

4. High value guys put off marriage because they can easily use hook up apps and culture to be happily single longer.

Our society has evolved to thoroughly discourage us to pairbond and reproduce

There is no way anyone in his right mind would sign up for a marriage considering today's social climate

Texas wants to make it harder to get a divorce. That says a lot.

I don't give a shite about whether or not someone is educated. I want people with good genes to pass them on.

Obviously.

Educated people also realize that getting married and having children can ruin your life.

Well that's a problem with the dregs, not the people choosing not to marry/have kids. More specifically, I think it's a problem with government assistance programs. If people had to pay for everything their child needed with their own money, you'd see a quick shift in those demographics in the positive direction

If you're not financially stable. There is a marginal cost when you get married in your late 40s and 50s.

Not the children themselves, obviously. Having children with the wrong person can drain you financially. Women almost always win the custody battle and the divorce war. They can walk away with half your shite and control of when your children see you no matter how wrong they are.
