No. Our grandfathers and great grandfathers were told they were saving America from Hitler but it was a lie. The real reason was to save the Jews. That is the reason given today in public schools.

Absolutely no chance.

Germany never even considered it an option due to their small surface fleet while only a tiny radical minority within the IJN thought it even a possibility. Neither Germany or Japan thought they could conquer the United States. The goal for the Japanese from the outset was to get us to the negotiating table from a position of undeniable strength. The more rational high command officers thought they'd only have a window of about 6-12 months to do it in once hostilities were declared.

Fakts.

And we would have lost the Revolutionary War if not for France.

Of the two, I find the idea of Japan doing it more plausible.

Do you know how big the Pacific Ocean is? Do you know the resources they would have to have to hold it? And how far could the Japanese get? The Western United States is fricking hell geographically speaking to conquer. Massive mountain ranges, tons of bridges, land barriers with small passes, high altitude, and large deserts with no water. There’s no fricking way they’d ever make it past the California coast and really not even get that far.

The Atlantic Ocean is half the size of the Pacific, there are multiple islands to build airbases to attack the US, and the Eastern seaboard and Gulf of Mexico are way easier to attack and geographically can more reasonably feed and move an army. Germany doesn’t really stand a chance at doing this either, but it’s much more feasible than Japan doing it.

What if Japan or Germany got Nuclear weapons first?

There would still be extreme guerilla warfare if they decide to actually conquer the United States with nukes. Cities they may could manage, but Americans would rig every bridge, tunnel, and railroad they could find with explosives and then massacre the enemy forces. Also if there are nukes involved, Americans would avoid major cities on top of that. The Americans could turn into the Swiss almost on a dime.

Unlikely, but assuming the fall of Britain, the US would have had to occupy Canada to prevent it from being used as a springboard.

There’s only one place in Canada I think the Germans would have struck and it’s Newfoundland. Canada has even worse geography and weather than we do, so I don’t find it feasible.

They never could have "conquered America," but they were more than capable of taking and holding large chunks of territory.

Being Japanese American would have sucked like nothing has ever sucked before, though.

Thanks to Democrats.

at the time of WWII, had they had the ability to force project, I think the Japs would have made it to Chicago before encountering any real resistance, militarily. There are something like two or three choke points to cut off the entirety of the Western US so to think thats possible isnt all that far off.

There’s a lot more than that, dude. Think of the number of bridges, tunnels, mountains, narrow passes, deserts, tundras, and forests there are between Chicago and the west coast. Remember the Oregon Trail. Now multiply that by 100.

thats the thing of it, right? The three chokepoints work in reverse as well. So you cut those off just in case and basically isolate the invasion to the western half of the country. Thats just a lot of damn coast to protect back then too.

But the supply lines work in the Americans favor and they will destroy them by the time the Japanese get close to them. They can be supplied from East to West by air, but the Japanese can’t do the same. They’ll destroy every rail behind them so the Japanese can’t be healthily be resupplied. They wouldn’t make it to fricking Bakersfield.

The japs depleted resources and ultimately failed at holding islands the size of Lake Ponchatrain.

The sheer size of the United States would make it impossible to invade. An occupying force could not hold a square mile in South Dakota for an hour today.

Maybe the USSR at full strength could have taken a major coastal city for a few days.

What I'm talking about is a collaborationist Canadian government allowing German troops and bases. Clearly a risk the US couldn't afford to take.

It's pretty ludicrous but:

1) Germany wins the battle of Britain and forces a puppet government on England. Germany then crushes Russia.
2) Japan gets our carriers at Pearl Harbor and then finishes off our fleet at Midway.
3) Germany and Japan approach Mexico and offer them an alliance, promising them the territory that the US took from Mexico (Germany made this offer in WWI).
4) Germany and Japan use Mexico as the staging area for invasion.

That's the only scenario I can think of.

I don’t know why people say this. In reality, if America didn’t intervene in the war, the Nazis would have still lost and a Red wave would have swept over all of Europe. Apparently not many Americans are aware that after December 1941, the Germans were mainly fighting a defensive war in the Eastern Front

Incorrect. The Germans were still very much fighting an offensive war until their failed summer offensive of 1943, which was greatly impacted by the American and British landings in Sicily.

An absence of American intervention absolutely casts a great deal of doubt on the outcome of the conflict. Especially if we remove American Lend-Lease aid to the Soviets. The Soviets were completely incapable of attacking German infrastructure and impacting their wartime production and economy. The Americans and British were striking the German economy and infrastructure mercilessly for many years. The Luftwaffe was forced to expend enormous resources combating Western air power. These were assets that the Germans vitally needed on the Eastern Front.

Also, a map of Europe prior to WWII versus following WWII illustrates that the war dramatically contributed to the spread of Communism across both Europe and Asia. It also resulted in the collapse of the long standing global order of Western Civilization, the effects of which we are still directly experiencing today. The British and French Empires collapsed and the power and influence of both states evaporated, requiring the United States to assume the roll of global hegemon and forever changed the fundamental character of the United States domestically and internationally, for better or worse.

It was not a stunner that the West and Soviets immediately became locked in an existential conflict in which peaceful coexistence was impossible. This was the inevitable result of the Soviet Union having power and influence, which the course of events in WWII were directly responsible for.

Next to none. A lot, and I mean a lot, of stuff would need to have happened for it to be possible for either Japan or Germany to invade the continental United states. And thats before we get into how difficult the task would be for both invading militaries

I don’t think German or Japan could have successfully occupied USA, Russia, or China. Too many people to control and too much land to patrol.

Also the US has the 2nd amendment. So even if the Japanese and Germans joined up and attacked the mainland after Pearl Harbor they would not have gotten very far. Think about how many trained WW1 vets and 15-60 year old males would have had a rifle ready to frick shite up the first squad of enemy troops rolled into town.
