quote:bullshite. The problem is that a very large percentage of the current largest minority are worthless, and a significant proportion of the current majority are just as bad. There’s too many people and the only way to solve the issue of a worthless population is for there to be less people…unless you are in favor of forced sterilization based on some sort of income/employment/tax/land ownership criteria…which I would be in favor of but recognize that that would truly be the “end of civilization” were it to happen
Meanwhile, here in the US we are going to have millions of low IQ 'Immigrants' out of work with no money and no way to support themselves

Lmao at the people in this thread trying to make this mainly economic. It’s cultural 100%. Either women are just outright not wanting kids, or they don’t want kids because it would make them slightly less comfortable. That’s not “it’s too expensive to have kids”, that’s a cultural mindset reflecting materialism over meaning.
Ignore all else that costs to raise a child, just putting a roof over their head is going to deter people from wanting kids

We can save SS by penalizing people who don't have kids, but those irresponsible people are probably relying heavily on SS in retirement.

It's not the pill. It's women in the workforce and the cost of having kids in general. The workforce bit is a major reason why they are waiting and it significantly impacts the cost of having the kids because once they do, they have to pay out the arse for daycare so they can go back to the workforce.

Given I had my first at the point that appears to be the biggest spread of “real” earnings vs rent you aren’t going to change my point.
In spite of that spread I see new tahoes/Yukons everywhere I see no kid adults posting their vacation pics from Europe in the summer ski trips in the fall.
Parents with 1 kid posting from their ANNUAL Disney trip after their ski trip in the winter.
Im sorry those things weren’t normalized even back in the 80s/90s.
Those were the really really rich kids.
In fact I don’t think I know a single kid who went international as a kid.

You can be in denial all you want. People with multiple college degrees will be out of work. So, knowing that what do you think is going to happen to all the low IQ retards out there? Its going to be an absolute mess and we sure as hell won't 'need' 330 million plus people.

What kind of circles are yall running in?
I'm in my mid 30s and basically everyone I went hung out with in college and law school has kids. A few had one and are done, but the vast majority either have 2+ already or they're working on it.
I know two women I graduated law school with who are out there posting overseas vacation pics while the other 20 I still keep in touch with all have growing families.

I don't believe there's a single root cause for this, but a combination of factors.
-Yes it has become increasingly expensive to have/raise children
-More and more couples are struggling with infertility (not here to debate as to the reasons why - everyone can have their own opinion). I'm at the age where lots of my friends and family are starting families and I don't know of a single one that did not have at least 1 (some had 2 or 3) miscarriage before having a successful pregnancy. So be careful when saying those without children are materialistic/selfish. You wouldn't say that to someone who tried for years to conceive and were never able to.
-Even couples without children often have to rely on 2 incomes to make ends meet nowadays and adding a child to the mix could be crippling financially (to some).
-More people are realizing there's no law that says you HAVE to have children, and arriving at the conclusion that it's not something they want for their life. The "when you grow up and have kids" line is ingrained into our lives from the time we are children, and it's my personal belief that many people have children because it's what they think they are supposed to do, not because they actually want to.
My wife and I (both 30) have been together since we were 19 and have had many in depth discussions that all led to the same conclusion: we aren't having kids. No we are not selfish, no we are not materialistic, no we do not hate children, no we are not LeFt WiNg LiBeRaLs simply doing the opposite of conservative values out of spite. Having children is simply not part of the picture when we think about what we want our life together to be.
The decision to have/not have kids is unique to everyone and shouldn't be subject to the scrutiny of others. But also yes I agree the scum of the earth popping out more kids for more welfare checks should not be rewarded for doing so.

Also something that doesn't seem talked about very much, but in my anecdotal experience seems to happen WAY more than you'd think is stillborn/miscarriages.
Just in my relatively small group of friends I keep in touch with from my school days, I think the count is up to 6 or 7 for miscarriages. One of my law school friends who will probably only end up with one kid has had 3 miscarriages trying for a 2nd.

According to ChatGPT, I could spend 14 days in Europe out of Houston for less than three months of what I pay in Daycare/pre-school for 2 kids. Depending on what I was doing there, I am sure it would be more than the high estimate.

You had no exposure to what other people were doing on vacation because there was no social media
People did not magically start going to Disney World in 2025.
