I live in the area. The helipad does not bother me, like someone else said the barges and train are more of a nuisance. The only issue I have with Children’s is the traffic on Henry Clay. I wish there was an alternate route to get to and from the hospital when coming from Leake ave/Carrollton.

and those uppity soccer moms that play tennis right there dont seem to be bothered. The only thing they complain about is the foul balls going on to the tennis courts from the baseball field

I like how Newman uses that nice baseball field near those tennis courts. God for bid they would play on those fields at the fly with the travel ball plebs.

I get where he's coming from with the annoyance, but this seems like a "choose your battles" situation and maybe not the best one to choose. Especially if it is temporary and (I assume) will change once renovations are complete.

If you read the article (which many have not) it's about a) the new location of the HELISTOP and b) the helistop being treated as a helipad. No one in the article is claiming they hate the children. They just want to know why the helistop was moved, and why is it being treated as a helipad.

AGain, its all in the article.

the fields at the fly are too small for MS and High School....quite a few schools uptown use Avenger....it's actually Newman's "home field"

Wouldn't be such a problem if kids would stop running right in the middle of cross fire in the 9th.

as someone involved in the project work at that facility, the neighbors quoted in the article are a constantly complaining PITA for anything the campus tries to do. The facility is landlocked and is doing the best it can with its limited area. That hospital and the helicopter and the ambulance sirens were there before they moved across the street.

I live right across the street from the hospital and was shocked to see people complaining. There has been a noticeable increase in noise, but my thought has always been "hope they can help that kid." I can't imagine being so bothered that you file a lawsuit against a children's hospital. In all honesty, it does wake us up every once-in-a-while but it's not too bad.

Usually there is about one landing per day,

I have to admit--it's more frequent than this. I'm only home from 7pm-7am, and I hear it at least once a day. I'd expect it's between 2-3x per day.

I know the feeling. My neighbor has a helicopter that he lands in his back yard.

You do realize someone likely called the paper to complain and they decided to write a story about it, right?

Can't they just put a better muffler on the helicopter?

I think it’s easy for you to judge them when it’s not next to your house. 4 years is a long time, that’s really stretching the definition of “temporary”.

And you don’t get to choose when they come, a lot probably come in the middle of the night. Takeoff and landing.

exactly, and all the virtue signaling in this thread is laughable. Every one finding fault would be livid if it was happening next to them.

People love to bitch about NIMBYs, until the nuisance is in their yard.

They told you why it was moved. It’s a safer spot than the old one. That should be enough.

No mufflers on helicopter engines, they are turbo-shaft powered, this aircraft by 2 engines. a turbo-shaft is a jet engine with a gearbox that sends power to the main and tail rotor gearboxes to let the aircraft fly. There is no way to muffle a turbo shaft engine. Alot of the noise from helicopters isn't the engines, its the rotor blades. and no you cant muffle those either.

Childrens just needs to tender these assholes a check for their houses and buy them out so these NIMBY's will shut up.

A friend’s infant was transported on this same chopper last year.
Frick those residents. Likely voted for Destroya and JBE anyway.
They are being dramatic. EC135’s and 145’s are some of the quietest helos on the market.
