I'm thinking the fishing with a hook bigger than his hand on a beach where people and kids are swimming is his bigger concern.

Why do swimming people have more of a right to the beach than people fishing?

Common sense says whoever came first, the other should push down the beach a bit…but they both have a right to the beach

same here, once people start swiming the fish scatter so its not like your gonna catch any trout when that happens. but the scavengers abnd bottom fish will still be around to catch

As a fisherman, I'll tell you that I don't think it really matters that much if they are "shark fishing" with a big bait or just fishing. If they are out there catching a bunch of Bluefish and Ladyfish like the gulf coast has right now in the tourist beaches that's not exactly a shark deterrent.

Personally, I don't know how you can enjoy fishing on a crowded beach.

But we need some updates OP.

I get it. I’m a fisherman and my favorite beach activity is fishing. But I do it when and where other people aren’t. Early in the morning or later in the evening and I make sure I walk a good bit away from anyone in the water. I’m not worried about sharks. I’m scared someone will step on my hooks.

Once at a beach I was swimming with my kids and these guys set up very near us. They then casted a double hooked line baited with shrimp about ten feet from my kids and the current was taking the line into us.

I calmly explained that I loved fishing and do it often. But if one of my kids gets hooked I was going to break their arm.

They moved.

My wife was pissed.

This is how I see it but some folks just don't have common sense. I'll never forget one time I was surf fishing on the Tybee Creek side of Tybee Island and even though the entire beach was empty at the time a family came up and plopped down right beside me. They started swimming right where I was fishing and an older guy that was with them literally walked into my fishing line and then looked at me and went oops.

I didn't want to make a scene because they had kids with them so I just reeled in and went to the little pier that is on the same backside. I honestly don't think they were trying to mess with me, I believe they were just that stupid

It doesn't matter much for the smaller sharks. I caught a few 3'+ sharks with a little square of fish bites and a fingernail sized chunk of shrimp.

Wife is mad about what? The shark would have been there either way. At least it was occupied.

ain't nothing better than getting out to the beach at the crack of dawn with a coffee, a joint, a big rod and reel, and some cut bait
