What say you? If he's telling the truth, sounds pretty justified. Definitely something to be addressed to get the law up to speed with technology. And Pervs.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Hillview man has been arrested after he shot down a drone flying over his property -- but he's not making any apologies for it.

It happened Sunday night at a home on Earlywood Way, just south of the intersection between Smith Lane and Mud Lane in Bullitt County, according to an arrest report.

If the drone was flying low over his property and he didn't want it there, he has every right to do what he did.

I back this man 100%.

Technology has out paced the laws. If I see a drone in my back yard, I'm going to defend my right to privacy as well. Some creep could be taking pictures of my kids or peering into the bathroom window.

No, he doesn't. You can't shoot drones. I'm not saying the law is "correct" but that's how it's applied right now. Law always lags behind technology (see: kids being charged with sex crimes for sending nudes of themselves).

My opinion is that you don't just shoot it without any other info, especially in populated areas

I'm not saying you can't, I'm just saying it's somewhat irrational

Justified if it was over his property IMO.

People need to keep these things over their land or use them in public spaces. You do have air rights over your property and I doubt this drone was flying above where air rights end which would also be illegal since that is FAA controlled airspace.

This is going to become a bigger and bigger issue.

Who wants to join me in a kickstarter campaign to build and sale a drone net launcher since you apparently can't shoot them out of the sky.

Merideth agrees and said he had to go see for himself.

Probably not intentional, but came across as

Sounds like he has a lot of overprotective, pent up rage over his daughter being a slutty teenager. He could probably use some time behind bars to think about his criminal act.

It just seems like a ridiculous thing to do, unless you have talked to the owner and given them warning

Let's say someone is taking drone photos of a house for a real estate listing and it passes over your yard, shooting it seems pretty ridiculous, even though you may not know their intentions

Now if you own 50 acres and see one over your secluded property, I may have a different opinion

As drones become more popular someone is going to come out with a handheld emp device to solve this issue so you don't get arrested for discharging a firearm.

He should have shot it down with his own drone... Nobody cares about drone on drone violence

Yeah, it'll be interesting to see how the debate goes. It'll eventually boil down to "how much air above your land is considered your property"

Net guns already exist, they can't arrest you for hitting it with a rock, baseball, slingshot, etc.

Someone needs to invent some cheap technology that can quietly bring these down to the ground.
