I graduated from Central High (pre incorporation). It was better than the schools in BR back then but since they split they've been consistently #2 or #3 in the state. Zachary has had similar results. Baker not so much but it's really just an extension of NBR at this point.
The only way to go would be up from what the schools are now.

So, I dont live in Central so I dont think any dollars of mine or anyone else (Federal or State) should be going towards that Comite Diversion. They chose to live in a flood plain.
Thinking that way is what got us to this point.
Again, St G wont fix anything. St G wont be this shining beacon to attract a growing population.
All your little St G children are going to dream of those cool cities where people are flocking to leaving behind a shrinking state.

No you are exactly right.
I'm pointing out forming the City of SG is not breaking away from anything. We aren't part of BR.
But yes the goal is an ISD. That would be breaking away from the EBRSS.
Sorry I confused you.
Ah gotcha, that makes sense.
No worries, I’m probably easily confused after Friday evening when the brain shuts down.

Is happening either way right? A proponent of SG would probably say, “I want to give my kids the best education possible if they’re leaving regardless”

I wish they’d let this St. George shite die.

He has a point.
People inside the proposed SG need to debate the issues.
Those outside SG have opinions, but I think it's fair to ask where they live to understand why they are "concerned".
Eventually only those that live in SG will get to vote on the city.
Down the road the entire parish would vote on the ISD.
It's important that the organizers put their plan out there in a timely manner, but it's also good if they explain the entire process, their strategy and their goals.

Do you think the founding fathers debated this nit picky shite before they seceded from the British? St George is essentially in the same situation

Last time I signed the petition.
I can't this time because I moved to Houston. It would piss you off to start listing all the things that are better here.
If the schools weren't utter garbage past elementary, I would already be back in Baton Rouge, paying my tax dollars in LA, and spending money at local restaurants and stores. But instead, I live here where everything is better, except that my family still lives in Shenandoah.
If St George happens, that is the first step to getting an ISD (like we have here in Houston). And incorporating is the first step, regardless of what mental gymnastics and convenient amnesia Magilda employs. That's what happened when we tried for an ISD - the State Legislature said we needed a separate taxing district for that, so "come back when you're a city."
Really hope it happens this time. It could stop the flight out of EBR.
Don't eat what "Status Quo Together" wants to serve you, if you want any hope of improvement.

Which they’ve done in great detail. Watch the videos I posted earlier if you need more info.

I’m in the same boat (with the exception of wanting to move back, we’re good where we are). We moved to the Atlanta Metro Area about a decade ago and for us, so much is just better here. Food, family and LSU football are about the only things I miss.
I can’t blame SG for wanting to make this happen, if I lived there I’d want the same thing most likely. But at the same time, there are people in Baton Rouge that value education and they’ll be left behind, and that’s concerning.
I agree that ISDs are ideal, but it would seem like a good compromise would be for EBRPSS to do away with transfer busing and let kids go to their neighborhood schools. Good neighborhoods would get good schools basically overnight and there is Title I funding for the rest. That’s how it works here. Even at the “bad” schools, Title I provides funding for magnet/IBS programs at each eligible school, so a smart/hardworking kid gets separated from the “general population” and gets the same kind of education that kids at affluent schools do.

Would they? It seems like transfer busing has been slowly going away for a while now nation wide. I wouldn’t be suprised if Baton Rouge is one of the last places in the country that is still doing this.

I still don’t get this whole thing. Why can’t it just be the nicer area of Baton Rouge?
The biggest fake news lie told about this whole thing is that the St George area is part of Baton Rouge and wanting to split away.
St George is unincorporated area and can do whatever they want to do if enough people say so.
Thanks for this thread. I forgot to sign the petition. I’m going to go sign it Monday morning.

EBRSS has a declining enrollment, yet spending in their operating budget this year is increasing 5% while revenues increased only 3%.
To make ends meet they are drawing down their reserves once again.
Unions have a lot of influence and they fight getting rid of unqualified teachers and higher pay which it looks like they will receive.
Poor discipline policies have also been noted. Stuff gets covered up to make the records fit a social agenda.

Part of a school's performance score is based on discipline/suspensions/expulsions... EBR middle & high schools know that in order to compete, they can't have high suspension/expulsion rates, so therefore a lot of these kids nowadays get away with a lesser consequence that won't effect the school's score, for what in the past would have resulted in a suspension or stricter punishment. As a result, their schools lack discipline and lack of discipline in the classroom prevents learning from taking place.

It really is incredible what has happened to BR schools since Parker's ruling. Belaire has like a 52% graduation rate. Tara is 48% despite much of its district covering some of the nicest areas of BR.
