Replies with this after being called to task for his bullshite:

The problems aren’t as massive as your dramatic arse thinks they are

Right after he just said this:

quote:

Come on now...no one out of state is gonna move to Baton Rouge unless they have family ties there

If that were true, wouldn’t it be a huge problem in and of itself?

Just curious, do you have any school-age children? If so, where do they go to school?

Cough cough.

So.... how do you propose we change the crime and education problems we have as well as stemming the exodus of middle class to the surrounding parishes?

If st George isn’t the answer, what is? What is YOUR alternative?

How would magildachunks fix the exodus and keep the middle class in the parish?

So if they build more apartments in one of the "better" schools districts or make them section 8 and now more poor kids officially live in the school district...you are totally ok with that as well? After all...students should go to their neighborhood schools.

You better believe that the first thing an incorporated St. George does is set up zoning laws so this doesn’t happen.

I get the argument from both sides of this. I understand why EBR wouldn’t want this to happen because St. George is going to take all the good students and tax dollars with them while the rest of Baton Rouge turns into Detroit.

On the flip side, I went to Kenilworth for middle school, along with kids from Gardere, Mayfair and the bottom and because of this, there were fights. All. The. Time. Busing kids all over the place didn’t work in the 90s and apparently it still isn’t working.

I haven’t lived in BR in over a decade so I really don’t have an answer. I understand why St George wants to break away and I understand why EBR wants to stop them. Tough situation.

Typical.

People arent flocking to Baton Rouge. If St G happens that still wont change. We aren't, as a region or state, as economically vibrant, attractive to tourists, attractive to recent college grads, attractive to new business as those aforementioned cities or ones like them. That's my point.

Creating St G isn't going to change it.

If the people as a whole could emulate the majority of people in those cities then we might get somewhere.

Yall saying its absurd/idiocy to want an Austin, Seattle, Portland and compare them equally

The 21st Century model is Sandy Springs, GA.

And then say the Atlanta metro area. A place larger and more populated than the first three cities mentioned.

What stopped them?

Serious question. When cities incorporate around the Atlanta Metro area I believe they control the zoning laws. Is it some sort of Louisiana/Napoleonic law thing?

The people will have a better say in their Govt

1. The people of the area will control their own zoning not Nerth BR, mid city, or Southdowns. All the construction that going on in Flood zones right now with the EBRP rubber stamping zoung will eventually make flooding worse in older areas. This needs to be controlled.

2. We have 7 deputy’s working the area per shift.
A lot of them spend a lot of time in Gardere that leaves how many for the rest of the area.
As a city we would be required to have our own police or pay for sheriff to provide this service. We would be able to pay for more deputy’s per shift that would be required to work inside our city limits and not Gardere, River Oaks, Millerville, etc. This would give us more protection to offset the crime prevention districts a lot of us pay for.

3. As far as businesses it seems like after the flood more and more commercial development happening on Airline Hwy in our area. No shortage of businesses moving into the area. Why is Salisbury Dodge moving off Airline by Baringer Foreman if the city of BR is a great place to do business.

4. Our city parish servitude’s grass is not being maintained by the city parish like the areas inside BR. Our parish roads are falling apart along with our neighborhood roads and there is not plan to repave them. A city in our area would keep our funds in our area to fix what our tax dollars are meant to do. Fix the roads and maintain servitude’s which is not being done by the city parish or The city of BR “stealing your tax dollars while not giving you anything in return.”

5. We pay for own fire district which is used to cover the city of BR’s fire dept class 1 rating. Our fire district covers the casino and other area annexed and without them being forced to do it the BRFD would have to have a substation in these areas or lose their class 1 rating. Then they annex areas to destroy unicorporated areas not only St George but again unicorporated areas fire district. St George Fire District covers more than just the St George area. SEEMS LIKE BR REALLY CARES ABOUT THE REST OF THE PARISH!!!!!

6. Gary Chambers does not live in our area or Helmet head and physco girl.

The suburbs north of the Atlanta city limits are pretty distinct from Atlanta. Sandy springs is in a part of Fulton County that isn’t very different from EBRP in terms of population density.

It’s not a perfect comparison but it’s a decent enough model I think.

I hope St. George comes to fruition. I have nothing but respect for folks trying to cut ties from a sinking ship.
