Spinoff: If you held the winning ticket, and you had the opportunity to sell it to a third party in return for complete anonymity, what you be willing to give up? I think a 20% discount would be a fair trade.

Absolutely I'd give up 20% for complete anonymity! Cash payout is roughly $500MM, so I'd give up $100MM and keep 400MM minus taxes. Where can I sign up?

and yes for $2 its fun and worth it to day dream for a little while...

Looking through the past winners and it seems like your odds of winning are exponentially higher if you live in the state of New York.

The incredibly high population density skews your data interpretation.

$970,000,000 / 29 years = $33,450,000 per year, plus a garranteed 5% gain annually.
Sign me up!!!!

Here’s my logic - there is only so much you can lose or have stolen from you annually- I don’t need the lump sum if I’m getting $34MM every year. Good Luck!!!

you would risk the state saying they cant pay you

take the sum and avoid that risk

Think about that for a second. They can sell a billion tickets and not one of them win.

I'm still buying a ticket.

your odds dont really increase much from 1 to 100 tickets. but they increase significantly from 0 to 1 ticket

True, but on the other hand you can double your chances of winning when you go from 1 ticket to 2 tickets. (probably not literally double due to how the jackpot ball works, but whatever)

Your're really not buying a ticket to win the jackpot but the dream of winning. By now everyone that has bought a ticket has thought of how they'll spend their winnings.

sounds stupid.
What's the point of having all the money if you're going to hide from everyone the rest of your life?

You think your family and friends aren't going to figure out you won the fricking lottery? Or are you planning on living out the rest of your life without anyone you currently know?

Who's going to buy this ticket, Bill Gates?

That’s my strategy as well. But I also have to have $2 cash on me at the time I’m at a convenient store or place where tickets are sold. Im not going out of my way to get cash to buy tickets.
