The Coronavirus test process is totally fricked up. You will not get tested if you did NOT travel to China, South Korea, or Japan.

I had EKGs, Chest X-Rays, Oxygen tests, Influenza tests, and a whole host of other tests done but while the Doctors wanted to give me the Coronavirus tests Blue Cross Blue Shield would not approve because I had not traveled to those countries. The Oschner folks were upset about this because they had been turning away dozens of people whose primary physicians sent them to be tested only to be told once they got there that they were ineligible.

If your Primary Doctor or other medical person tells you to go get tested MAKE SURE you tell them you went to China so BCBS or other insurance companies will approve your test. It is ridiculous but that is the current state of affairs.

It's almost like Trump and the Republicans are completely incompetent.

If BCBS doesn’t approve the test, doesn’t that just mean they won’t pay for it?

That's scary. The government only wants positive tests if directly traceable to the East. Doesn't want the public to know how widespread it is and how long it's been here.

Trump and Republicans aren't dictating that policy, and in fact the CDC expanded eligibility for testing 1.5 weeks ago. Sounds like the insurance company didn't allow it, which is weird since they are now being reimbursed so that testing is free to citizens (that was Trump.)

Stop spreading it and quarantine yourself. You aren't going to die, you just have a severe cold.

That doesn’t seem accurate, maybe they’re short on kits in your area. I know for fact several people being tested that didn’t travel to those places.

Shocker there’s red tape. It’s almost as if private insurance and the free market isn’t some wondrous driver of efficiency when it comes to healthcare

Found the moron. Red tape is always a symptom of government involvement, you know, like the large sweeping legislation called “Obamacare” or any of the one the literally hundreds of other regulations passed by our government for healthcare that existed beforehand.

I'm to follow-up as soon as the insurance fiasco for these tests opens up.

At the very least, I would ask your primary care doc to send BCBS a scathing appeal. I would also contact the CDC and/or have your doc do so to alert them and to find out where you can tested.

All excuses for those restrictions were eliminated yesterday. They have to give him the test now.
