The Story gets weirder if thats possible,
Brian’s Parents called 9-11 on him..
“Police called to Laundrie home twice the day before Gabby Petito was reported missing“

...but it wasn't. They got stopped because an eyewitness called 9/11 and said Brian was slapping Gabby and chased her to the van. They got stopped because of that incident, not over some broken tail light.
Yes we have the hindsight of 20/20, but the cops had a witness say Gabby was being assaulted and they failed to see a battered woman covering for him.
Im not even saying arresting him would have prevented her death but its kind of sucks that the officers didnt pick up on what was really going on and basically let him walk even tho they had people that witnessed what happened.

The incompetence has been strong by every entity involved since early august.

“ “A male hit a female, domestic,” recordings between dispatch and police. “The female who got hit, they… both the male and the female, got into the van and headed north.”
So an eyewitness says they saw him hit her, but she falls short of confirming that...what the hell are the cops supposed to do? Take the eyewitness's word over the person who they say was "hit"?
quote:
And then there’s the body cam video of her describing his attack on her.
The body cam doesn't confirm any "attack" on her. They both laid hands on each other according to Gabby, and she says she was the aggressor.

Admit it. You've literally read no media reports about the incident, have you?
quote:
We have the advantage of hindsight here, which the cops did not have,
What the cops didn't have that we do have are all the details from the 911 call.

They pulled him over because he was speeding, and swerved into the curb. They thought it was an impaired driver.

Has to be some evidence of a physical confrontation. If the word of a third party guarantees an arrest, then calling in a DV report becomes a convenient way of harassing people you don't like. Or diverting the police so you and your associates can commit an actual crime.

If I had to guess its probably because GP parents were trying to put out a missing report before 9/11.

I think the cops got it wrong RE who was the aggressor. Uninvolved eyewitness called the police saying Brian was hitting her. Gabby tells police he put his hands on her, while also very clearly trying to cover for him by saying she deserved it or started it. Also, that is my opinion only with the benefit of hindsight, since she is dead and he is on the run. Police obviously couldn’t have predicted this.
While I don’t think police made the correct call RE who was the aggressor, I don’t think it changes anything. They were separated for the night and he was put up in a hotel. It was clear they had the option of putting her up for the night with the charity that got Brian a room if they thought she was the victim. Either way they are separated for the night.
Given the inconsistency in the witnesses and stories from Brian/Gabby themselves they did the right thing by separating them for the night.

Which doesn't matter. Let's say one or both are arrested, one of them has to press charges right? Neither wanted to press charges, furthermore they are in Utah 1000s of miles away from family.
Chances are if they are arrested, they get back together again anyway. By all accounts, they wanted to be together. They could have separated that night and chose not to.
There's no reason to play a what if game, in hindsight there's nothing to say with the evidence we have that something could have been prevented. Nothing.

Dude. There's no clear evidence that he hit her. She changes her story several times and everything that they both said lines up with her being the aggressor and him trying to get her off of him, which may have caused a small scratch on her face, which nobody could even see on the the body cam video (at least the original one). He had multiple visible cuts on his face. The cops did what they thought was right based on the information they had. They can't read minds.
100% this and I am not team Brian.

If she is wailing on him, grabbing her cheek and pushing her away is a pretty normal reaction.

You left an integral part out thou..
Brian had her cell phone, her van keys and he had locked her out of her own vehicle as he’s slapping her up and down the sidewalk not letting her in the van. The witness even mentions Brian has her phone. If she’s going to be locked out of the vehicle she at least wants her phone. It’s tantamount to being locked out of your own home with no means of communication.
“ When the operator asks point blank what he saw them doing ... the guy doesn't hesitate -- he says he saw the man slapping and hitting the female, then both of them running up and down the sidewalk ... and finally jumping into the van and driving off.”
Quote:
“We drove by and the gentleman was slapping the girl,” the caller said.
The dispatcher responded, “He was slapping her?”
“Yes, and then we stopped. They ran up and down the sidewalk, HE PROCEEDED TO HIT HER, they hopped in the car and they drove off,” the man replied.
“He grabbed her face and pushed her back as she pressed upon him and the van, he tried to lock her out and succeeded except for his driver’s door, she opened that and forced her way over him and into the vehicle before it drove off,” the report continued.
ETA. BL was driving off WITHOUT her..Gabby literally has to DIVE over Brians lap as he speeds off!
The teenage worker at the COOP does a great job but he is unable to describe what’s actually taking place.
Brian lied about them “cooling off and going for a walk”. He was LEAVING her there without her phone as evidenced by the abruptness of the event. BL likely would of come back for her eventually but it’s clear as day he was tormenting her and INTENT on driving off w her phone WITHOUT Gabby.

A timeline question:
When did Gabby's Dad leave south Florida? Was it before or after Brian disappeared?
