The sandals…they both are wearing them…or at least had similar cork-soled designs. But it does link the van to them

Between the sandals, the hat on the dash, the stickers on the back matching up, and several other things that people have pointed out(scratches on the gas cover, markings on tires, etc), it would be a major shocker if this isn't the van.

What's even more surprising is when they happened to be passing through there. It's so close to the beginning of the window when she first could have disappeared.

Looks like her body is out there or that’s where she ran away.

So it’s possible that her body got brought back to Florida or she came back to Florida alive with him

This is really bizarre. So he hitchhiked to someplace and then somehow made it back to the van? Or did she pick him up and he killed her on the way back to Florida?

Or he really is innocent and she was just gone when he got back.

He was trying to create an alibi. He probably killed her near the van and he was trying to make it look like he'd been hiking alone for a couple of days when he was picked up hitchhiking.

Someone else pointed out that he picked out a pretty dangerous spot to leave her by herself, assuming that he wasn't the one that killed her.

Doesn't really create much of an alibi IMO. Just brings more suspicion.

Yea, that’s a shitty alibi. And why is that spot so dangerous to leave her by herself?

If anyone is interested, Going West: True Crime podcast has been following this case since the beginning, and they just put out their 3rd episode updating the case. It’ll get you caught up to what’s being discussed here in this thread.

Out where?

that’s where she ran away.

What leads you to believe she ran away from that location?

I’m very confused. If her body is “out there” or she ran away, why do you think she/her body made it back to florida?

Speculation in a plot twist: But have the feds checked the human trafficking networks?
quote:

710 Indigenous people, mostly girls, were reported missing over the past decade in Wyoming, the same state where Gabby Petito reportedly disappeared

The media calling people generally- indigenous may be wider speculation? As the area seems to be a favorite --hiking off the grid-- area for kids, young men & women with not a lot of money?

The issues with native women are not going to be linked to a white tourist-hiker. That's a very isolated issue within the various communities.

The couple that sees the van on the side of the dirt road passes another vehicle shortly before they came up on the van. Maybe that campsite has more information?

Right… what would he tell the cops his reasoning for randomly leaving to camp with essentially nothing for two nights

Can somebody catch me up on the last 24 hours? I last saw LEO was looking for him in the reserve but now it seems internet sleuths have discovered more evidence of sightings? Something about a creek, book, and sandal? A quick 24 hour rundown would be most appreciated.

This video evidence solidifies his story to the couple who gave him a ride. They picked him up at Colter Bay saying they were headed back to Jackson. If they had stayed on Hwy 191 it would have passed right by the turn off to Spread Creek, but they turned right on Teton Park Rd about 10 minutes into the drive and were going to take the scenic road through the park back to Jackson, which meant he would have had to hitch from Jackson back to the Spread Creek turn off of Hwy 191 (about 25 miles). This is when he "freaks out" and asks to be let out by Jackson Lake Dam.

Agree. It makes more sense why he freaked out now when they turned off Hwy 191. I think he was trying to get back to the van which was still at Spread Creek.
