*UPDATE: Arrest are in order* Got shorted money at a register today

Went grab a few items for the week earlier tonight from the local grocery store. Paid with a $100 bill and got handed my change bills and receipt in one stack. She didn’t count the bills out like they usually do. She just put them in my hand. So, I fold the bills and receipt in half and stick it in my pocket all together and head home. When I pull out the change I see I’m shorted so I call the store and let them know and I can swing by and pick it up. After they check the cameras they say that I was given the correct amount of change. I dont see how that’s possible. Now there’s no way one bill falls out of the folded stack of bills and the receipt. It’s not on the ground in the store or in my vehicle or my house.
Not sure what the play is here?

Update: I called back this morning to see if the drawer count was accurate. They said they would call me back. A few hours later they call me back and tell me they have launched an investigation because she has been doing this to people from quite some time and this is the first time someone has said something.
She was grabbing the right amount and slipping a bill or two in her pocket or under the counter. Pretty slick because I didn’t notice at all.
Got my money back and launched an investigation haha

Just forget about it. Or burn store to ground. Only options

The play is you dumb for not checking your change before walking out.

You should have counted it before you put it in your pocket
Not sure there is anything they can do unless you call tomorrow to see if they found it when they balanced the register at closing

Only thing I can think of is call back and see if the cashier you checked out withs drawer is over by the amount you didn’t receive. They could’ve pocketed the money, but you never know.

You shouldn’t use cash in stores where the cashier isn’t given the pictures of what the change is supposed to look like

Most people who do that are drugged out trash who are trying to trick the dumb cashier into giving them more money back than they should. fricked around and found out.

It's 2022. Use a friggin card. Exact change every time. Cash takes longer too.

You left the store. You’re out of luck (and money).

How old of a baw are you?

You can literally walk in and walk out with anything you want. They won’t stop you.
Also, rule number one for a quick trip at a store:
Never get behind old people or someone using cash.

You left the store without counting your change. That's on you.

This wasn’t at the grocery store. This was a shady C-store and you were buying booze.

Stop paying for food and just walk out the grocery store with whatever you want

I pull out my checkbook but only after I get the total in case the store changes its name in the meantime

Never trust a mouth breather to do math when it comes to your money.

I did this a while back as well, but caught at the time she handed me my change. I told her I wouldn’t make her count out the register immediately. I left my contact information and told her how much I expected the register to be over. They called the next day and said to come and pick up my change.
They know exactly how much should be in the register based on the transactions that occurred that shift. Unless somebody is blatantly trying to steal from you, they shouldn’t be wrong.
