Update New Mobile river bridge..I-10. Construction starts Oct 1st!

Toll is 3 dollars one way.
Or you could get the monthly pass for 60 dollars a month.
Hopefully they will have lights on it like the CCR in New Orleans

Well I go through the tunnel twice a day and live on the eastern shore… if the rate they’ve been going the last year is any indicator… I’ll long be retired before the first vehicle crosses it. Five years…LOL… highly doubt it.

By the time it’s done I bet the Eastern Shore folks will no longer be having to commute across it. Same way North Shore folks in LA barely commute across the lake to NOLA anymore.

Does anyone know who the toll is actually paying ? I guarantee it not the US Govt? I smell private equity, so whose cousin is making millions

Using TIFA loans was how part of the first phase of the Leeville bridge was financed. The toll started at 2.75 and has risen to near 5 dollars. The original loan was for 66 million dollars paid out in 2004-2005, but as with most construction loans built up interest until the repayment schedule started in 2013 and lasts until final repayment in 2040.
Part of the repayment schedule was based on increasing the toll towards the end of the loan and expecting traffic to increase, but the traffic counts have not risen and have either shrunk or stayed stagnant. Plus numerous exemptions have been added like residents of Grand Isle, certain public employees (teachers, firefighters, and police), and public official vehicles on official business.
Another factor has got to be collections. With no toll takers and depending on toll by plate, I wonder how many people just ignore the notice and do not pay. On the flip side, having toll takers is a double edged sword because that increases delays to cross the bridge and increases your costs to collect the tolls which eats into the revenue as does any contract with a tolling firm that knows you need their services and can get top billing.
