Good possibility it was empty.
Or maybe that was the 6 people that were rescued.

It's sad but true. They will also waste $1 million to save a $100,000.

The EF crossed my mind a few times while reading about this Seacor accident. Both tragic. Doubt they’ll be a song made about this one though.

Hate to break this to you but...all businesses do this regardless of the industry.

not joking, and with ALL due respect, I'd be willing to bet there will be, it might be a Cajun/Jimmy Buffett type of song

unless they have a pretty strong union to hold the industry's feet to the fire, and I'm talking government regulated industries like this

First thing that came to my mind when I saw the video of those shrimpers getting tossed about.

That’s 200 miles an hour right there.

2nd victim identified
quote:
The second known victim in the capsizing incident involving the Seacor Power has been identified.
The Lafourche Parish Coroner's Office says that Ernest Williams, 69, of Arnaudville is the second victim. The man was found more than 30 miles from the capsized vessel by search and rescue workers who are continuing to look for 11 other missing crew members. His body was found on Thursday night, according to officials.
A first victim was identified earlier this week as David Ledet, 63, of Thibodaux.
To date, 2 have been found dead, 6 have been rescued and 11 are missing.
Several family members of the missing crew workers have been taken to Fourchon while they await the fate of their missing loved ones.
Divers are attempting to get inside the vessel to search for signs of possible life.
There are pockets of air in some portions of the vessel, according to the Coast Guard, so there is still hope that there could be rescues.

I hate to profile but I’m guessing he was the cook.
Damn, so fricking sad.

It is sad. A 69 year old dude should be at home playing with his great grandkids.

Any updates?
They are still in the water actively diving. Families still aren't sure if they've even made entry or not.
Meeting with the families at 7:30. Updates usually follow by around an hour.

I'm hoping this isn't an older cook I ran across back in January. He joked about being too old to be offshore but said he was going to retire in the next few months. I didn't get his name but he wore a Ragin Cajun hat with his cooking apron.

If I had to guess - they saw the extended forecast for rough seas and figured that Tuesday was the last opportunity to get offshore for at least 5 days. They likely made the call to make a run and get to the destination before the weather arrived.
In a normal boat that can actually maneuver, and ride it out sure, but not a jackup.. they are nothing more then a barge with propulsion. I wouldn’t want to ride out a lake chop on a jackup.
