Agree.

Agree. Crossed the line. Provide the food and booze. To ask for gifts is f#$king nuts. That would keep me from bringing a gift. In fact, I might would go and take a few things to welcome them to the hood.

When I read the title I was ready to come in and say it's a nice gesture while expecting the OT to shite all over said nice gesture.

After reading the OP, frick these people

Firstly, hosting an impromptu party for strangers you should expect to provide EVERYTHING. If other people bring stuff, great, but there should be no expectation of it.

The house warming registry is just mind-blowing and they sound like they're gonna be horrible neighbors. Expect a knock on your door if leaves fall into their yard from your trees.

I don't think the RSVP or the bring a side/bvg part is tacky. Especially since they are providing the burgers/dogs, well, as long as, they don't cheap out on those. Though I hope they coordinated some, and don't end up with a bunch of tater salad.

Just have the wife make your favorite side/desert, and bring your favorite drinks.

The gift part though definitely is a horrible selfish move.

That’s absolutely insane. To throw yourself a party and then suggest presents to bring for yourself is peak social media narcissism. Enjoy the cheap Photo Booth and the obnoxious requests for “not like a picture” picture requests

They are also going to learn that people here are not like, for example, people from Louisiana. We moved here in Fall of '01. Our neighbors were quiet. Nobody socialized here. I asked the HOA and the city if I could throw a block party. I got approval and started planning it for late March/early April because I wanted to do a crawfish boil and be true to my roots, but I had great friends and everybody chipped in to help, one friend supplying me with 3 kegs (he was the distributor), another set up his tailgate gear and canopy and made hamburgers and hotdogs and all the fixings. We supplied tables, chips, ice, water, paper towels, trays, pretty much everything food wise and told everyone that wanted anything else it was BYOB. We had a jump house for the kids, a clown that did balloons and face painting and for the evening entertainment, another friend set up a commercial-grade outdoor movie screen, a gigantic video projector and speakers on stands. He had music playing during the early part and the HOA paid for the viewing license (I think it was only $75) and we played Toy Story on DVD when it got dark.

It was a blast. Everyone brought their lawn chairs and had a really good time. The fire department has come by, too, as we invited them. They brought a ladder truck and had kids sitting in their laps and parents taking pictures.

You want to know what the crazy thing is, though? We did all that, and out of the 78 households in my small community, only one couple ever returned the favor and invite us over and become friends, which has always been very disappointing to me. I don't begrudge the money I spent, because we did make friends with a great couple from Georgia who moved here to our neighborhood about a year before we did. They are from the south. They know how to be social and return the favor, but it just exemplifies why DFW area citizens, not necessarily Texans, kinda generally suck.

Come to our house and bring us some food and a present from this last?

Did they ask you to mow the lawn and walk their dog too?

I don’t think I’d get involved with this potential nightmare.

I'm sure it was a bit of culture shock but this metroplex has 7.6 million people - it's a big arse city. That's just how it is...

Meet and greet is a good thing. Gift registry? Very weird.

Give the wife a joint and your phone number.

Include a QR code on your reply of gifts you’d like to receive as their new neighbor.
