*also, they are from Southern Orange County in Southern California.

I thought about taking them an invitation to the next county GOP gathering to hear Ted Cruz speak.

If they had skipped the gift piece, I would say this is refreshing social behavior in today’s day and age.

Be careful befriending neighbors before really getting to know them. I did that and you can’t hide from a neighbor once you realize you don’t ever want to hang out with them.

A young couple moved in and have invited the neighborhood to a meet the neighbors event at their home. We are going to go and pop in (they live behind us), but what I found strange was, they are hosting the event, and serving hamburgers and hotdogs but the invitation solicited everyone to bring additional food and beverage items, which, is okay, I guess, but they also included a QR code to RSVP to, and when I did that, it opened up to a wish list of housewarming gifts they suggest.

frick that..if they want to meet me they know where I live

99% chance it’s the wife’s idea and the husband doesn’t want anything to do with it. I wouldn’t judge him too hard.

Pretty odd.

I have invited the neighbors over. Cooked hot dogs and a hamburgers and didn't ask anyone to bring anything.

That's all I got on that.

Not really, i just wouldn't feel obligated to get them anything if I didn't want to.

ETA: I have this character flaw where I don't care what most people think of me though.

They need to be socialized to their new environment.

The way you do this…order an adult toy for his misses, but invert the address numbers so you receive it. After you open it, you walk it over and introduce yourself. That will be the last time they solicit anything from the neighborhood.

my thoughts as well, I read this as she is one of those super organized type women, and in her mind, she is helping people who might try to bring a housewarming gift to not duplicate things they already have. Sort of like a carryover of her wedding registry.

My wife has a friend like that. She drives us all nuts.

That’s the type of people that probably asked wedding guests to contribute to their honeymoon

That is so pretentious it actually made me guffaw, then chortle.

I'd still go to party with my neighbors, but I ain't messing with their registry.

Ironically there is a very good chance they are Republicans. Orange County has traditionally been a Republican stronghold in an otherwise blue state, although it is more of a 50/50 county now. Given that they moved to suburban Dallas, I'd say better than even chance they are conservative, although not necessarily huge Trump fans.

I agree with others that this is likely driven by a very uptight OCD type wife who doesn't have a clue.

The meet & greet is a good idea I like. The BYOF and the wish list is bullshite.
