cant tell you how many times ive been out with people who drove to the bar b/c theyre ‘only gonna have one or two’ and of course that turns into 3 or 4 or 5 and of course they THINK theyre fine to drive.. i dont get it..

Everything has externalities. Someone voting democrat has significantly more impact on me than local miscreants being same in their home or stumbling down the street. Once they break into my home, however? That's different. You just can't really be legislating morals. Criminalize more directly criminal acts and let a healthy society take care of the rest.
That's more risky, shall we say, but it's freedom. And I trust people to regulate people more than legislators and bureaucrats.
