I for one am very happy that a beard can be professionally acceptable now.

idgaf what everyone thinks about my beard, i just really hate shaving. I haven't shaved willingly in over a decade. Shaved twice when starting chemo treatments because it was falling out - other than that no razor has touched me.

A well groomed beard requires an effort.
A scraggly beard seems to be what a lot of men think is cool.
The color of the beard needs to look right with complexion and hair color.
There's a guy in eastern North Carolina who has had a pure white beard for over a decade. Pitifully, his beard is ALWAYS stained with tobacco juice, a brownish red stain. I don't think he realizes how disgusting that looks, or maybe he's going for that look.

I also agree that medium to long beards look absurd on almost everyone. A legit trapper or homesteader it makes sense. However a short well groomed beard looks fine on a good amount of people but some just can't pull it off. Also if it's splotchy, it's terrible. I keep a short beard because shaving makes me break out and shaving sucks. Also I'm bald so having a baby smooth face with a shiny head looks stupid to me and I hated it.
