Formerly was UNO of course. Before the UNO designation, they were under the LSU system. Restoring order I suppose!

Good marketing move. Out of state kid wants to go to LSU, but wants to party in NO.

Problem solved.

It was either this or shutdown.

I actually think this rebrand has potential.

I hope it works out for them.

I get why people are upset about the name and colors but it just wasn't working. This is better than shutting down.

UNO is recognized as one of the most ethnically diverse public universities in Louisiana.
The breakdown of the student population is approximately:

White: ~42.3%
Black or African American: ~23.7%
Hispanic or Latino: ~14.2%
Asian: ~7.4%
Two or More Races: ~4.4%
International & Others: ~8.0%

Almost 60% minorities. LSU knows what they're doing.

LSU New Orleans could be a solid spot to go to school if LSU plays this right.

Definitely a big sales point

They should be shutting down 4 year universities in Louisiana, not rebranding them

That is probably true today.

I had a friend back in the day chose to go to UNO over LSU because she wanted to go to graduate school in a bio-science field abroad. Her theory at that time was that in foreign countries they are unlikely to have heard of Louisiana State University, but everyone has heard of New Orleans. It worked for her as she got a Masters in Peru studying exotic diseases and then went to medical school in Germany.

LSU's brand has significantly expanded since then.

Horrible take - especially for New Orleans.

The city DESPERATELY needs an anchor university that will help to educate people to build a better workforce - it's literally one of the reasons NOLA sucks. Many of the best and brightest leave.

The tie back to LSU could be huge if done correctly - the amount of research, funding, and grant opportunities could be amazing for the GNO area.
