Their reasoning is dumb

“Standardized tests favor rich people.”

No dumbass, being intelligent favors rich people, that is why they get rich.

Timed tests are scarey and grade inflated students aren't comfortable with them.

I hope they take it a step further. High school diplomas or GEDs are not required for admissions

I use to laugh at the dumbasses who got degrees from DeVry and Phoenix. Now I think those degrees may be more legit than 95% of these brick and mortar shitshows.

Having two parents that gives a shite favors white people. No one will say that.

I think you're mostly right. Really smart people will score really high on standardized tests. But if a dumb highschool kid's family can afford a $1500 ACT prep course, his score will be higher than a dumb high schooler who can't afford it.

Hopefully they haven't closed the side door where you can bribe the dean of admissions with a cheeseburger to get in.

Things must have changed up in Denver. DU is a private University that, when I grew up in Colorado, was where the rich kids went.

ETA: Still is for the rich - Tuition and fees $47K

I really don't care how a private institution decides to admit students.

Devry is a lot more legit than Phoenix. Are people even able to get a job with a Phoenix degree?

You do realize there is a whole industry revolving around paying SAT/ACT specialists that all but guarantee test scores?

I dont buy the notion that test scores only favor the rich, but there is an argument that the rich have the means to get test scores that are not solely based on intelligence.

Next thing you know, people will be requesting to do spoken word poetry for oral tests.

From the article:
If you peel the onion back with test score performance, usually what a high test score is showing, is less on your academic preparedness and ability and more on the degree attainment of your parents and the family income,” said Todd Rinehart, DU’s Vice Chancellor for Enrollment.

Straight nonsense.

Not sure they were ever totally necessary, I didn't finish high school, and went to college later. I never got a diploma or a GED, they let me in based on the grades I had, and ACT scores. Know a bunch of people that for various reasons did the same.

My friend is an alum and screened applicants. He said there were a lot of rich kids who wanted to ski for 4 years.
