No the called the cops to enforce the law
Except, it's very possible that the law stated he had every right to be on that plane and not kicked off.

If that proves to be so, why did United call the cops in?

Basically it comes down to what boarding is considered. United's own policy is violated if the court would decide that being on a seat in the plane is boarded.
From what I can tell, it's not what constitutes boarding that's the issue, it's what allows IDB to be used. Overbooking does, but aviation attorneys are stating that making room for employees as passengers does not.

Absolutely nobody agrees with overbooking

You definitely like less expensive flights, though. Which is what overbooking creates.

Not necessarily and at most only to a certain degree. Overbooking is only used on a certain percentage of flights, for example on busy flight times. Off peak times rarely have overbooking as they don't book up period. Low fares are more prevalent on under booked flights than those most likely to fill up.

Which OT lawyer wants to set us up a class action for all the trauma this has caused? I'll take lifetime 1k status and one million miles.

the fact of the matter remains that the dude resisting is why he got hurt. I could never see myself resisting an officer, so I will never empathize with someone that does.
Cop shows up to your house, says he's going to search it, he has no warrant. You tell him he can't until he gets a warrant, he barges in, throws you down and injured you in the process.

If this happened , you wouldn't have any empathy for that person, or if it happened to you, you'd just be like, "my bad, should have listened to the cop, that was totally my fault, not the cop's fault at all"???

What were the circumstances surrounding this flight? Like time of day, number of flights each day/the next day, etc. Every time I fly and it's pretty often people race up to the gate to try to volunteer. It seems strange they couldn't get anyone to volunteer on that little puddle midwest puddle jump of a flight.

There's some minds on here that says the homeowner resisted and is lucky he didn't get shot for not following orders.

Last flight of the day, probably 5pm-ish, next United flight there was about 22 hours later.

From what I gathered it was last flight of the day and the next flight was the next afternoon.

How does United have that few flights from ORD to a big place like Louisville?

so, in your scenario, what was the advantage of resisting the cops' orders? what did that get me besides an injury?

Meh. I'll pay more money for actually getting a seat and not a shady promise that I'll fly out on the flight I paid for.

Do you think you have any rights? Some people fight for the rights they have, whether it be right to privacy, or occupying a seat.

Without asserting that right you don't have it.

Stupid analogy.

Let's go with, you sign a lease for rental property. The property owner legally evicted you, you decide to just sit down. You take a beating because you were an idiot.

Why is that the people who always get their arse beat by the police aren't doing what they're asked to do?

I think it's because they live in America where they have rights and police don't have authoritarian power to do whatever the frick they want without justification

And will United let this case stew in court for years to determine this?

I hope so. This dude would be wise to get as much publicity as possible.
