So, it may be cheaper to attend Oxford than attending Ole Miss?

My daughters Masters from University of Edinburgh was cheaper and 6 months shorter than the same program at LSU. Crazy enough the rent was also cheaper than Baton Rouge. Student visa allows you a chance to work 20 hours per week so she could make some fun money.

Cambridge is 710 acres vs LSU's 4,925. Cambridge 3,600 administrative staff...LSU has 5,000 Cambridge has more academic staff but majority are part-time or research fellows. Just more efficient from top to bottom.

how is their football team though

The US government has driven up tuition costs by subsidizing student loans.

UK colleges are very heavily subsidized both directly and through student loans.

College should be difficult to be accepted to and cheap once accepted.

But then FedGov and higher education couldn't continue running their student loan scam.

The UK isn't handing over $40B in aid to Ukraine at the drop of a hat either or playing World Police.

curriculum more focused
This is a big thing that cuts down on the required years. I'm not necessarily for it, but it does make a certain sense to skip out on Western Civ and Latin if you're a math(s) major.

before the government distorted the market, a college education could be paid for by the avg. student by working a summer job and part time in college.

also, we have a whole system of collegiate athletics that doesn't exist anywhere else.

Pretty sure they have strict entrance standards and it's not a free for all like LSU

I'm sure I have this wrong but I remember reading that if you meet the criteria that they'd consider, you will be invited for an interview with the department that you intend to major in. A biology professor said they would take them to a pub and drink beer, and be friendly but ask questions to see how much science they instinctively understood. Such as, "why do you think it is, that sound is inversely proportional to the square of the distance from the source?" Like, not just knowing an answer, but offering a theory as to why nature might be set up that way. As a 17 year old. Sounded pretty scary!

As others have noted the government subsidizes college more and yes the are more efficient in some ways. In the UK you know more out of high school than American students. American students make up for it at the end of four years of undergraduate though.

So UK colleges can be more specialized with smaller classes and specific classes. A freshman geography or history class in the UK is more advanced and you have to do more work in a sense than a freshman geography of history class in the US.

But the main difference is that the UK has fewer opportunities for undergraduate and graduate studies. There are no McNeese or Nicholls or Gramblings in the UK. Not even an USL (ULL). In the UK for example you'd have Tulane, LSU, maybe La Tech, Loyola, and that's about it.

Did any of you at LSU have courses or labs taught by graduate students from the UK? A lot of them from the UK come to the US because they can't get into graduate school in the UK even though they are smart enough and even smarter than your average US or Chinese graduate student. Not as many opportunities.
