The truth is that HIV is nearly exclusively spread (at least sexually) through homosexual male contact and to heterosexual women through crossover contact. HIV is virtually non-existent in the lesbian community as well as exclusively heterosexual men.
But again, with modern testing, this prohibition is unnecessary.
