This is only tangentially related, but I have a family member who had a liver transplant. He had it done at Vanderbilt. Of course, there were multiple people in there for transplants from multiple donors. One of the docs came into his room and told him that the donor had a STD and they were required by law to disclose that fact. It was an odd feeling, and I can't imagine what he and his wife thought. Fortunately, they had gotten the donors mixed up and told him info on the wrong one that was supposed to be for the patient next door.

I have never talked with him about what he would have done had it been correct. I know his wife was conflicted over it.
