I wonder why the mexican govt didn't just kill him when they had the chance...or at least extradite him to the US.

Following El Chapo. He's got 295,000 followers.

Because he is paying them handsomely and/or threatening to torture and kill their entire extended families. The people who arrest and guard him often wore masks to hide their identity from him.

This guy is the most powerful man in Mexico.

I think it's more about power than money at that point. And once they're in that deep there's really no way to simply "retire".

Which brings up an interesting question. What would be the US response if a cartel actually was able to follow through on a threat like this? Not necessarily Trump, but any political figure.

Cartel head would be dead in a month IMO.

We give them help, but not the full force of our government and power. If they killed a congressman on American soil, it'd be on like Donkey Kong.

Problem with cartels is, you kill the main guy, and its next man up. Doesn't do shite to their organization.

Hypothetically I wonder what they'd have to do to retire.

I guess move to non-extradition country and pay off everyone possible? They'd still have to have 24/7 armed security, escape tunnels, etc.

Think how many people and governments want that man dead or in jail.

If El Chapo seriously wanted it to happen, Trump would be no more.

Both things are true.

Chapo could do it, but he knows he doesn't want to light that American fire under his arse.
