I can barely even remember life before rideshare apps. It almost seems like a lifetime ago I was calling cabs at 12:30, not because I was ready to leave, but because it was the only way to beat the rush and not be stuck waiting an hour.

I don't have the Uber app anymore (RIP 4.99 rating). Only Lyft.

If a cab rolls up, I'm jumping in.

Never will call those fricks again, waited over an hour and the dispatcher just started hanging up on me when I'd call and say, you said 10 minutes 20 minutes ago. Just tell me the legit time.

Funny, I’m trying to do the opposite

Why Belle Chasse?

Uber is super fast where I live and much cheaper than a cab.

I'm in Lafayette though.

I also love how you can track the uber ride coming and going..

So if I send a family member on an uber, I can constantly watch their entire trip via the uber app.

Sounds like Uber and Lyft forced the taxi industry to unfrick itself and improve its services.

taxis rates are government regulated moron, ride shares "were" lower and now they are "not necessarily" lower. Uber was subsidizing fares to draw demand, now they have demand, they have upped fares.

Like Amazon, you could get something for $20 you had to pay $40 at the store.....now its $39 from Amazon and $40 from the store.

You people get what you deserve for being played

Before Uber, I knew I had to call a cab at least an hour in advance if I wanted a ride from the Chimes/Varsity

because government capped the number of taxis, but left uber uncapped.

In San Francisco where Uber started, there were only 1,500 taxi medallions allowed by the City. They let Uber be run by the state instead of the city, under the initial guise of it being like busses and Limo's (charter vehicles) with no cap.

Now there are 45,000 ubers daily in a city that is still limited to 1,500 taxis.

morons still say, well I had to wait fot a taxi, placing blame on taxi companies instead of the government for capping taxis.

If you frick sticks wanted more for hire transportation why didn't you ask your representatives to up the limit?

Uber's VC firm obviously worked their connections to squeeze into the market because a billion dollar firm has more connections than a large cab company (500 vehicles).

Uber wasnt "smart" its completely crooked. In Sf, for hire transportation like pedicabs, jitneys, scooters, bike shares, car shares, etc...have all been regulated for years before Uber. They arent the first who wanted to charge people for rides. Each of those is city regulated, but for some reason, they allowed Uber to go through the state.

corruption and gullible morons

I'm a libertarian; I blame the government for everything

If it were up to me, we wouldn't up the limit; there would be no limit. If it took Uber to get the government's head out of its arse, great.

"you people" put the limit in.

1950
"We don't want ten's of thousands of taxis clogging the streets"

2000
"We don't want ten's of thousands of taxis clogging the streets".. public outcry when then Mayor Willie Brown tried to get a cab and couldn't, so he upped the amount of medallions by 400.

2010
"i love uber, i dont have to wait"

New Orleans Uber is awful

Terrible drivers. Nasty vehicles. Same price as cabs in my experiences

Can you please define “over-charging?”

Sounds like an interesting concept in a free market economy.

Bowl game tomorrow, so they're probably jacking prices up.

FYI, you can get an account with the bigger taxi companies, and just pay at the end of the month

And a shitload of Christmas parties in town tonight. Surge pricing.

I've never had a bad Uber right in Nola. It beats the hell out of the sleazy stupid cabbies. Assholes wouldn't adapt and get GPS's in their car. Even when told they needed to start accepted credit cards like every other city they refused and then when they did get machines installed they tried to say they were broken half the time.

Nice try, cab man. Nobody uses taxis anymore. It’s over.
