Aviation is literally the epitome of a meritocracy. Rigorous training for both pilots and ATC. Multiple universal certs that are NOT easy.
The problem is traffic volumes and a traffic control system stuck in the 80’s.

So your explanation for the sixfold increase in female pilots of 10-15 years is just that they were all of a sudden rising to the top?
Despite being overall VERY safe, the vast majority of the prominent incidents in commercial aviation in the past years have been with women at the helm.
