Why'd my post get deleted? It was a quote from the video.

Yeah, I don’t see an actual problem with this. There were slaves around during some of the battles and sieges. This is just great trolling and the reenactors should have gone along with it.

They asked the reenactors when the auction block was. There would have been no way to seriously involve them in the reenactment.

Idk.

I'm trying to find the old man's picture in his full regalia in his later life. He was a handsome fellow.

What's the argument behind a few blacks fighting for the confederacy and the fact there were some black or mixed slave owners? Are we supposed to concede that slavery wasn't that bad and it should have been allowed to continue? What leftist agenda is being pushed?

No. We're supposed to concede that slavery was socially accepted in the past throughout most of human history, and was not inherently "racist." And then stop trying to apply modern sensibilities to history at the cost of all of our freedoms.

First, they needed to ditch the chains.

Then they could have fit the role of teamsters for Confederate supply wagons. But, one of them was afraid of horses.

I follow your first sentence but the second makes no sense to me.

They want to remind everyone that their ancestors were slaves?

It would be like if your mother was a whore, and you troll people by reminding them of this fact.

Should have taken a bit longer. I'm pretty sure that wood print is not to be taken seriously, as the actual text of the article discusses the debate between Southern slave owners and the North on the involvement of slaves in the war. A good discussion of the satirical use of drawings about the possibility of the South using its slaves as combat soldiers is an article in Civil War Illustrated, 1977, which includes several more examples of illustrations printed in Northern newspapers.

I don't know what I'm supposed to be looking for in the second two links.

Give me the actual source documentation and I'll look it up. I mean, documents from the period etc. Because my initial database search finds nothing substantive.

There was a lengthy project done on one of the Civil War history forums I frequent.
If you have time it’s well worth following and diving in.

For those too lazy,
Were there black and/or mulatto Confederate combat soldiers?
Yes.
Were there thousands of them?
No.
Most were in support roles (musicians, teamsters, cooks, servants)
But there absolutely were documented black/mulatto CS combat soldiers

But there was a distinct difference between how slavery was practiced. The reference to 'most of human history' isn't really useful, as African tribal slavery was different from the Arab slave trade and on and on. And chattel slavery practiced by Europeans, by their words, was definitely racist. The sensibilities of the time stated that slavery was a unique evil too. Your lot just want to shut down discussion.

Thank you. That's far better than what has been offered in this thread.

Says the guy who apparently doesn't understand the context of a woodcut and posts it anyway. Nicely done.
