Comfortable as a single earner, but if he has w wife that makes 60K, he's doing all right.

Here’s the thing, my guy. And it’s something that blows my mind about so many working families in America who are working in professions that require higher education. Because I hear all the time that my salary (plus my wife’s) is poor or struggling. As if those that aren’t combining at least $150k aren’t able to live right.

We’re not hurting. At all. Sure, we’re not driving luxury SUVs or living in a McMansion. But we take multiple vacations, have a college fund for our kids, live in a safe neighborhood while we save up for a house (ultimate goal is $400k, which will be way more than enough for us), and pursue personal hobbies that bring enjoyment. We don’t want for good food and have stylish - yet budget friendly - clothes.

And being teachers means we have ridiculous benefits and a defined pension plan.

There’s so much more we could want if we had more money, but in terms of actual needs, our ~$120k combined salary is just fine.

I’ve tasted rich.
Miserable.

I’d rather be low to middle class and happy.
It’s hard for the wealthy to have peace in their hearts and that’s my goal. It’s the only thing that can grant happiness.

You’re a dick in every thread. Not everyone is a charter member of that black man fisting Grindr group like you.

Money isn’t everything and I’m pissed right now. So what is more fulfilling? Being content from day to day or having money to travel the world?

I've heard someone who has more followers than I do say, "take the experience first, the money will follow."

I've actually followed the money and got a hell of an experience (bad).

I've also gone for the experience, and got an overall bad experience, mostly due to the ineptness of senior leadership.

So, in my case, it goes both ways. You have to evaluate your decision -- and what is best for you and your family -- at the time you have to make it.

Holy shite. I cannot imagine how comfortable I’d be making over 100k.

Unfortunately, many adjust their lifestyle. Smaller toys become bigger toys. It happens.

It's not what you make. It's what you keep. But in saying that, I'd much rather make $135K (or even $100K) vs. $35K. There's a greater likelihood of being able to save --- plus a greater margin of error room.

I don't have a dream job. I have two things that I like to do. I would call them my passion(s). But if we're being honest --- and since we're dreaming, I don't want to fricking work. I'd rather lay on the beach in a Caribbean hideaway --- and I don't care for the sand either --- and not worry about the stresses of answering to an investor or investment company. But I also like toys. I also like saving money. I have personal financial goals and ultimately, I want to set a good example for my children to follow. Hard work does pay off. And it's who knows you, not who you know.

But in saying all of that, I received a job offer and increased my base salary by 50 %. Too good of an offer to pass up.

Me either. I've done 20 years at this point. I like my job and all but I'd much rather do whatever I wanted all of the time. I'd love to go about my day and not care what time it is.

I thought I worked my dream job working for a top 3 contractor. Now I set my own schedule doing home inspections and use my free time in my carpentry shop/with my family. I took a temporary pay cut but can honestly say I'm where I never knew I always wanted to be.

No, I said "lavishly." You'd be surprised how mundane things add up.

We make right around that with one kid at home. We definitely aren't hurting and have a decent lifestyle but we certainly aren't carefree with money. I understood what you meant.
