If leaving is so terrible, then why doesn't another European country (who are wayyyy closer to the situation) send some of their troops over? Why is the US seemingly the only country who can come to the Kurds aid?

I won’t pretend to know enough to judge whether this is a good or bad decision. One observation: in my lifetime, it seems like whoever we try to help in that part of the world (Iraq vs Iran, mujahideen/taliban vs USSR) comes back to try to frick us a decade or two later. At some point, we have to question what difference our presence actually makes in the long term.

How many US troops were there? I am seeing 1,000. Is that really that significant of a number for everyone to be upset about? Does not seem like 1,000 US troops is going to change that much over there.

A fair question, and a question to ask this administration. Did they attempt to speak with any European nations to send troops to assist with Kurd assistance? Who knows.
I do know NATO folks have been there for some time providing other assistance, as well as the EU. Maybe not much military assistance, but certainly a lot of humanitarian assistance.

Love all the mother frickers like the OP that have never served and are perfectly fine sending other people and others kids to die for a dumbass cause yet wouldn't send their own kid to die for it.
Real simple concept when it comes to military action
If you wouldn't send your own kid to die for the cause, don't ask others to send theirs!!
And for those complaining about the pull out, when in the hell does it stop? We cant afford these wars anymore. Things have to be sacrificed, these should be the first things cut.
Next up needs to be Afghan and all troops in the middle East. After that give SOKO 10 years to get their shite together and pull back there too. Same with Japan.
After that should be Germany and all other troops. Within 15 years we should have every troop home unless on an active mission authorized by Congress.

I don’t care. We don’t need to waste any more American lives in that shithole. The Kurds have fought the Turks for centuries, are we supposed to protect them forever?
And we helped the Kurds in the fight against ISIS, we used air strikes to free 30,000 of them trapped by Isis on a mountain. They didn’t really help us, do you think the US Military needs anyone’s help? Lol

This is true, and the number is probably higher than one-half. I venture to say that MOST of the US electorate doesn't care about reducing US troop levels in the ME.
It's getting tough for me to see a political benefit to Trump for doing this. The US electorate simply doesn't care very much if at all WRT the blood and treasure we're expending in the ME.
If the Turkish military operation destroys more than just a bunch of Kurd ammo dumps I don't see a political benefit to POTUS. This could hurt him in 2020. The Dems will be more than happy to position themselves as the World's Biggest Fans of the Kurds our Loyal Allies because they can paint Trump as a Back Stabber.

I think most people that are criticizing the move are criticizing the fact that this appears to be a rash decision with little to no strategic planning on how to exit without completely fricking over our long term allies.
I'd love for us to completely vacate our presence in the Middle East, and stop sending our troops over there to either their death, or a life of torment from PTSD once they return. But doing so would lead to a power vacuum that will be filled by those with evil goals. We should have learned that lesson with Obama's withdrawal in Iraq, and that one had significant planning and coordination. Though it was also a larger scale exit.
