He was originally the Midas muffler shop mascot, hence the king’s crown. I’m not sure where the location of the shop was but I believe somewhere on Vets. I’m also not sure why they decided to get rid of him.

And BTW, this figure is not unique. I’ve seen another on just like it in Atlanta.

Loved world deli as a kid. Would always get the breaded veal with mashed potatoes. Had it again a few years ago and felt sick after unfortunately

They’re nationwide, and like OP said they’ve been around since the 1960s. There’s a website dedicated to their locations all around the US. And they have a wikipedia page.

I appreciate the effort that goes into these posts; however, my preference for idiot savants is more idiot and less savant. For that reason, I have to stick with Kige.

World Deli has THE BEST roast beef po-boys in the city WITHOUT A DOUBT!!!!!!!! If you’ve never had one and doubt me ya owe it to yourself to simply go try one. Roast beef with mayo and extra gravy toasted (toasted meaning when they put it in the oven upon completion of the sandwich, they leave it in a bit longer). Bring your rain coat and plan on using an entire roll of paper towels when eating this incredible masterpiece and then tell me who has the best. You will thank me.

P.S. The sign has THREE girls on it for a reason. The old man, God rest his soul, had 3 daughters. Julie, Wendy, and the one who is in charge now that I can’t remember her name. But who gives a shite about that, LEAVE THE SIGN, TAKE THE POBOY!

TulaneLSU,

Every time I read one of your lists, I think this is the best, he will never top this one. And each time you raise the bar higher. You are an OT treasure, sir! Enjoy an upvote!

Friend,

Thank you for this wonderful contribution.

Several items you touched upon I felt inspired to comment on, to wit:

The Mobile One jingle is indeed a form of torture.

Jaegar’s (whilst located at West End) on December 14th, 1989 was the setting of part of a particularly meaningful day in my personal life for reasons I’d not care to share here today, but thank you for reminding me of that time and place.

If you consider the City of Slidell to be included in the Metro area, then this comment needs amendment-
quote:

Anyway, there are now just two Copeland’s in the Metro, this one and the one near Esplanade Mall.
Again, thank you for you wonderful contributions here.

Best regards to Mother and all others of your inner circle.

I remain your humble correspondent,

Friend,

Is the third daughter Christi? Sadly, Julie, I believe died. It has always surprised me how little publicity World Deli gets. Its location, tucked not so neatly in a confused section of northern True Metairie, might be to blame for that. Its parking lot is a mess, and the restaurant feels like a house turned into a deli lunchroom.

Fut, I do not know if I've ever eaten in Slidell. I certainly have never been to Covington, even though Mr. Percy seemed to like it. Thank you for informing me of those Copelands. I tend not to include areas on the northern shores of our great lake in my Metro definition, though I am aware many people do. Perhaps one day we could share in your memory of that December day, 1989.

Yours,
TulaneLSU

Sir,

Warmest regards,

ne might blame that opinion on the memory of a date who took me here in high school. It was the same girl to whom I proposed on Prom night just before starting the fourth of five courses at Impastato’s. I ordered a carrot cake, thinking it would taste like Grandmother’s Christmas bread cake. It did not.
