Such a great post. I too have enjoyed many of those signs at night.

Friend,
Is it Fun Factory to which you refer with the slides? I remember being dragged there for a birthday party in 1991 and our Youth Group went to a haunted house there in 1992. I did not enjoy it.
Speaking of its cousin, I did enjoy my cousin's 16th birthday party at Kid's Playhouse, but not because of the games there. They tried to serve me this disgusting pizza. I refused, so Mother took me to Picadilly where she let me get a Super Dilly with jello, dessert, and a drink! I inwardly laughed knowing I was living high on the hog while the big kids were stuck playing games. I believe Kid's Playhouse became Laser Tag before it was torn down to build that beautiful Super Walmart.
Reminiscently,
TulaneLSU

Is there anyone on this site who thinks Tulane is who he pretends to be?

No. These were relatively tall independent structures that appeared in the late 60s and early 70s. I remember seeing and sliding on the first one on the Gulf Coast. I think it was Bama maybe Florida. They looked like this.
Edit: The wife’s telling me it was by Trader Joe’s location. I thought it was on the Kenner side of the interstate. If she right, that’s ok, I won’t tell her.

That was mean of you to criticize that guy’s backsplash on the food board.

Downvoted bc of your preachy left wing commentary. Enjoyed it other than that.

My family, of course, had no need or desire to move to Metairie. Prytania always afforded us space, security, and supremacy.
Easy for you to cast aspersions about “racist white flight” when you grew up in a mansion on Prytania.

“Prytania always afforded us space, security, and supremacy.”
White supremacy? Jesus Christ.

She’s wrong, The lot where Trader Joe’s was always a vacant lot, it was the last piece of land on vets that didn’t have a building on it. That strip was the first thing there..
The Super Slide was in the Lakeside Shopping Center parking lot.. Close to where Flemmings is now in the early 70’s..

Cuco's had a great neon sign on Vets back in the day. Sadly they updated to the cheaper and more common backlit box sign in the 90s

Fun fact, Schwegmans on Airline use to have a bar where the men would sit and drink while the wives shopped. They also at one time sold live chickens and monkeys!

Most of the Schweggies had bars in them....The one on Vets did. They also had sporting goods sections, they actually sold guns and ammo...

They had their own Scwegmans beer and a bank. Parents could cash Dad’s pay check. Mom would make groceries. Kids to the pet shop. ‘Member the color chicks for Easter. They would all grow up to be White Leghorn roosters. Inside the pet shop, I used to sell my baby gerbils for a quarter each! Big money for a kid, could buy a taco at Taco Tico with a drink!
