Easy for you to cast aspersions about “racist white flight” when you grew up in a mansion on Prytania.
You're taking this part seriously? I take it like I take your part-time Englishman, part-time Australian shtick.

Old Swamp Room >>> New Swamp Room.

But I really like New Swamp Room nonetheless.

I include this out of appreciation for my dear friend, Stadium Rat.

Enjoyed many a swamp burger at the Swamp Room, along with some great games of pool. Worked at the pizza place across the street, so a very short drive at 3:30 am to get a swamp burger. Good times.

I've had a few Swamp Burgers, but I played LOTS of pool at the old Swamp Room. Had lots of great pizza from Tulano's, too.

In fact, I've been in all of the sign joints mentioned. My old stomppin' grounds. My family moved to that area in 1960. Veterans was only on the south side of the canal. Early businesses were Patio Drugs, Moffatt's Hardware, National Supermarket, Frost 'N Snack was a little drive in stand in the parking lot where Swamp Room is now. They had great burgers and soft-serve ice cream. The Green Acres Time-Saver, the locale of Tom Fitzmorris's early employment, was there early on, too.

There was an early pizza place called Cibo's. There was a Royal Castle where Club Drive met Veterans (other side of Vets). Full service gas stations abounded in that area. Harold's Texaco, Esso, and others.

Hell of a bump.

I did the same back in the early 2000's. Was mostly a Whitey's guy but Swamp Room was open later. That was before I discovered Buffalo's.
