House floats " " are stupid. It's just lame, feel good propaganda from the Masked Covidian liberals in New Orleans to act as if they didn't cancel Mardi Gras. Mardi Gras is canceled. That's it. Screw your "house floats" aka Mardi Gras decorations that people put up every year anyway.
Go hide in your houses with triple masks on. Pussies.
Friend,
This is the correct take. House floats are for quitters. It is not surprising to me that uptown liberals lack conviction. For all their bluster and "look at how NOLA I am" attitude, they are fake news.
More money than sense. Nearly choked on my coffee at the multi-million dollar mansion with the "thank you Mayor for keeping us safe" banner. What an embarrassing load of nonsense.
Yours,
DVA

Friend,
I occasionally peruse your "Top 10" threads, enjoy some and am ambivalent to others..... This one was truly great.
THANKS for taking the time to do this. You brightened this old man's morning.
Happy MG to you and Mother!!!

No offense to you, but I think this idea is dumb and hope it fades quickly.

Dear Friend,
Thanks for posting these pictures. This is probably my favorite post of yours. I enjoy seeing the different themes. My favorite is the super spreader..
There are a few politically themed ones that will probably trigger some people on here
I am trying to think what I would do if I was to do a house float.
Thanks

Jesus dude let people enjoy themselves.
What’s the deal with the Georgia house? I didn’t really look at it.
They hate Georgia because it is now a blue state and it has the face of someone who represents the party they hate. I couldn't imagine being 100% serious about politics 24/7 and being mad because someone has different views.
But I guess that's what happens when the communist mindset sets in.. They think that a single platform should be the rule of the land and expect everyone to have the same views they share.. If not, they want those people silenced.

Did you just call people opposed to Stacy Abrams communist?

I'm all nervous and shite because this psycho was outside my house taking pics.

BTW house floats are dumb.....The people in NOLA caved to Teedy on Mardi Gras without even a whimper and are trying to convince themselves, the rest of the state, and the world that house floats make it OK..... ....elections have consequences.
What's even worse is that there are 15 upvotes to this. Last year, Mardi Gras was related to the high number of cases Louisiana had. If there is any event that would get canceled this year due to Covid it was going to be Mardi Gras.
Its probably best to avoid this for right now.
Now I am not saying I completely agree with how things have been handled throughout this pandemic, but again.. Its not the worst idea to cancel an event that brings in people from all over the world in which they will all be in the streets all on top of each other.
And while many of you probably think that the pandemic is either fake or there is no need to do anything about it, that's your opinion which doesn't mean you are right.
As for as the house floats.. IMO there is nothing more New Orleans than house floats. Since there isn't going to be a regular mardi gras season, they still found a way to have fun with it. Why is that dumb?

That picture is from 6 years ago you fricking moron....do you really think that is what MG is going to look like this year?
2015 was one of the biggest and busiest Mardi Gras ever on record

Friends,
TigerB689, I spent two full days walking through the streets in the crescent. It is not unusual for me to walk 15 miles each day. Long walks are good for body and spirit.
Loup, Mardi Gras is not a Catholic holiday but a Christian holiday. While many American Protestants do not follow the liturgical calendar, the majority of the world's Protestants, including Episcopalians, do, thus, we celebrate Mardi Gras. As for the New Orleans version of Mardi Gras, with krewes and floats -- that is an entirely Protestant creation. Mardi Gras in New Orleans before Protestants introduced the social celebration was a rather tame affair.
One of the lingering blemishes of the Protestant origin of many of New Orleans' Mardi Gras customs is the prohibition against Catholics and minorities in real krewes. The primary Mardi Gras organization, as we all know, is Comus, and those who know their Mardi Gras history also know Comus was so named for the Milton's great mask play, Comus.
Anyone who has not read Comus cannot claim to understand Mardi Gras in New Orleans. This work was Milton's great coup against Alcohol and Fornication, and it was the founding fathers of Mardi Gras in New Orleans to show to the world the benefits of virtuous living, and by that I mean a life of chastity outside of marriage and temperance. In fact, I think Milton actually goes too far in elevating chastity:
You see there Milton replacing Love (Charity) with Chastity. No, John, it is and always will be Faith, Hope, and Love. Anyway, Mardi Gras in New Orleans, as you know, would be nothing without Protestants.
Wolfhound45, I believe that was it. Abba, Father. I assume they are Palestinian?
buttocks, it has been a year since I traveled to the West Bank. I may take a ride on the new ferry soon. The last time I went to ride, though, I was a bit too scared to get on that little ferry.
soccerfut, God will protect me through those areas. There have been several very close calls, including nearly being shot and run over in Central City by a car being chased by the NOPD. God's shield protected me, but I will take your words to heart.
jblgeason, to talk without a religious reason is to say nothing.
gonecoastal, perhaps we could have an OT walking tour of these house floats for Mardi Gras! Three ply or N95 masks covering nose and mouth and distancing at least six feet will be required.
Roll Tide Ravens, Stacey has promised to join a TulaneLSU Poorboy Tours of New Orleans outing when it finally rolls.
Dandy, the house float phenomenon is a beautiful thing and reason more for New Orleanians to be grateful to live in such a city.
madamsquirrel, the colors, artistry, prayer, music, INRI Jesus cakes, marching bands, grace through throws, and Popeyes chicken are what makes Mardi Gras so special. The alcohol and licentiousness have no place in Mardi Gras.
Tall Tiger, it is an ostentatious but beautiful house. I toured it when the previous owner lived there. He wanted to show me his car collection, which included an authentic Batmobile from the old show, not the 80s black Corvette. When the landfill people moved in, I heard they spent something like $250,000 on a single oven!
hobotiger, good eye there.
Meridian Dog, the tour van is an F350, but each time I get it to turn over, something new breaks on it. I have not been able to take it a block without it sputtering to a stop. It may be time to get an entirely new vehicle.
There is little doubt that the house float trend will continue beyond this year, even when parades return. I will certainly do combo poorboy and house float tours. In fact, I may make it a trifecta with poorboys, house float, and INRI Jesus cake tours. Can you imagine a tour around City Park and Old Metairie: seeing some of these beautiful houses with side stops at Parkway, R&O, Bear's and Bevi? I must stop before the big tour companies steal these ideas.
You most certainly need to experience Mardi Gras in New Orleans, where we do not throw moonpies. IMO food should only been thrown at the St. Patrick Day parades, with an exception made for those guys in the Shriner carts who throw Tootsie Rolls and hard gum that no one eats anyway. They are grandfathered in to that rule.
Hangover Haven, please tell your friend how much I enjoy their house decorations.
metallica, the houses especially in Bywater are close enough to do a walking tour. Mother and I never once felt unsafe. The rumors of lawlessness and crime in New Orleans are greatly exaggerated on this forum. Believe it or not, I will walk several thousand miles through the streets and sidewalks of New Orleans each year. I have yet to be robbed or beaten on a walk.
DVA Tailgator, house floats is very much in keeping with the spirit of Mardi Gras. I for one am glad to see it, and I hope we can use this new creativity to limit how much made in China plastic junks gets thrown during parades. House floats are here to stay and I cannot be happier about this new chapter in Mardi Gras.
Sid, you are ever so kind.
OWEO, I look forward to reading what ideas you cooked. I am hoping to convince our entire neighborhood to do a "Characters of the Bible" theme next year.
Yours,
TulaneLSU

Barbarin surrendered peacefully and there were no injuries, according to police.
Barbarin had barricaded himself at a home in Uptown near Broadway Street and South Claiborne Avenue.
Two people left the home just before noon, but police say they were not hostages.
According to NOPD, the two people are being questions but are not under arrest at this time.

Best house float is Jeff Goldring's house on St Charles and Octavia.
