#Elsa's center playing peekaboo again with deep convection

Sort of interesting bit of trivia: morning flight to check on the storm was late leaving Keesler, seems they can fly though bad weather, but they can't take off in bad weather of certain types.

Oh yeah, Elsa is angrier than she's been in a while. All that lightning.

Yeah, they were delayed a while, and when they finally got to take off and got to the storm it had winds approaching hurricane strength.

Trying to work some upshear convective magic and stack but the shear keeps knocking the low level center around.

I'm driving into Winter Haven, FL now. I hope this thing passes quickly. We got plans to ho to Legoland.

It’s amazing that this storm was just racing along at like 31 MPH and now is moving at just 9 MPH… that front pushing it now to the north sure is strong.

Looks like the eye passing right next to this buoy. Under 50 kets sustained, not the 60 that NHC is saying.

Earlier, #Elsa passed directly over Buoy 42023 and recorded sustained winds of 58 kt gusting to 68 kt. Certainly some ground truth to verify the estimated 60 kt intensity right now.
Still forecast to become a #hurricane before landfall sometime in the next 12-18 hours.

Man that lower level is looking like it's doing some work to get organized and intensified, but that upper level is still a sheared mess.
No telling what kind of monster she would've eventually turned into if she had a more westerly track that kept her in the open gulf longer, or the same track with more favorable conditions. Score one for the good guys this time

How hard is TWC praying it becomes a hurricane before landfall?
