They are paying fees to wire the money. I guess that's why Mexico wanted their cut too. But those fees aren't going directly to the US Govt so I see your point. Just wanted to state that wiring money isn't free from the jump.

all the idiots saying Mexico won't pay for it are just that idiots. The number one industry in the Mexican economy is remittance from the US. Right now this money is untaxed as most illegals work for cash tax free. A 20% tax would pay for the wall pretty quickly. But if you threaten a 99% tax essentially crushing the mexican economy and which their government knows will force revolution you carry a much better poker hand.
This isn't hard to figure out. We stop giving them money and stop letting them profit from untaxed revenue wired back to them. They can not afford for this to happen. They will cave and do whatever we want.

You don't think people will eventually figure out ways to knock out holes in the wall? They will also find ways to get over the wall.
Trump used one of the most effective marketing tools there is. Fear. That's what got him in office because its pretty much the only card he has. People are afraid of illegal immigrants, Muslims, and the idea that the country isn't safe (although crime has actually been on the decline for years).. But elect him and he will make the country a safer place to live...
He is a millionaire (has he ever reached billionaire status?) who has an Ivy league education, who came from a well off family. The ONLY way he could connect with the people who support him is selling fear.

I would propose instead of a wall, those new military sound weapons that make ear piercing sound when you get to within 100 yards of them. Or the ones that put out unbearable heat.

20 foot T wall topped with electric fence with 250,000 volts will eliminate ladders.
Gravel roads on either side of T wall. Trucks equipped with ground penetrating radar for patrolling, looking for tunnels.
