This is the Trump administration's big push right now. They made a tremendous change yesterday, changing the Medicare reimbursement for most COVID-19 tests from $51 to $100.

The original plan of paying $51 per test was "reasonable," based strictly on the normal criteria. But $51 per test isn't enough for labs to make money when they have to pay overtime. And $51 per test isn't nearly enough to induce labs to buy new machines to run more tests.

So, raising the reimbursement is going to do a lot in a few weeks, as my understanding is that Abbott and Roche both have a number of their high-throughput machines available for sale.

Senate Democrats proposed a $30 billion plan to raise testing. Personally, I think that President Trump will propose similar measures and then pretend that they were his idea all along.

So, I think that we're going to be just fine on tests, for now. The shutdown and warmer weather have helped us nearly wipe out colds, the flu, and strep, so we basically won't have people with those conditions for a while who are worried that they have COVID-19 and need tests.

Phase 2 can be in many if not most places in America right around the time school would let out.

Im just making the point being summer doesn’t magically mean young kids don’t have to be put somewhere for parents to go to work

For the entire workforce to be able to return, kids will first have to be able to attend schools/camps.

You can’t put over 25% of the states population in close contact with one another. Especially when a big portion don’t understand social distancing and general hygiene. The spike would be huge.

My only point was the poster was right. The full workforce can’t return until the kids are taken care of. The other poster inferring since it was summer that isn’t an issue was misguided
