It’s a city where the majority of its citizens are driven by wealth and materialism. People who are extremely motivated and money-hungry want to move there. The downside to that is you have to be willing to lose a little bit of your soul if you want to live there. And that’s where the shitty progressive/far-left politics come from.

NYC is no Polk County.

That’s for sure.

The Bronx has always been a shithole
False

100 yrs ago it was a place working class people moved so they could live in somewhat less urbanized surroundings.

After WWII the govt built public housing. That is what ruined it.

I mean, the D train in the Bronx at 5am has never been somewhere I would make plans to be.

I’ve never understood it either. To me it’s just a huge corporate city like LA and Chicago. But if you drive an hour and a half south to NJ, there are some really nice quiet beach towns like Harvey Cedars. Lots of Italian restaurants nearby. The only problem is that just about everyone who lives there is a progressive anti-2A looney.

I just want to hear about how the OP ended up there a few years ago and had a good time.

Offend? Nothing

You’re the one pretending to know the inner feelings and motivations of the majority of 8.5 million people

No one serious speaks this way.

Obviously I wasn’t applying that towards everyone who lives there. But when some of the world’s most expensive clothing stores, hotels, and restaurants are located in a city, it’s safe to assume that’s going to attract a lot of wealthy people who are willing to lavishly spend money on stupid shite. That’s why I called it “materialistic”.

I grew up watching 70s and 80s TV, so NYC to me was where people got mugged every block or two. Had no desire to ever visit as a yute.

Went for 10 days a couple years ago and loved it. Caught a couple of Broadway shows, saw all the major tourist sites, rode the trains and buses all over town, walked through Harlem (!!) streets and parks, hit Chinatown for black market purses for wife, walked a thousand miles in Central Park, walked the Village at night, etc.

Never felt sketchy except for seeing a bum pissing on the stairs of the subway near Times Square. The train ride to Yankee Stadium got a little rambunctious with a blue collar crowd, but it added flavor to the trip.

Haven’t checked the math, but a tour guide told us that if NYC and Brooklyn separated, Brooklyn would become the 4th largest city in the country (think Houston), and NYC would still be No. 1.

I learned that from Horseshack and them in the mid '70s

It’s one of the world’s great epic cities. Elite in every aspect for a tourist. For those who can’t enjoy NYC, I feel sorry.

There are millions of people there. You are going to find crime stories.

It’s still safer than most big cities.

That may be true, but if I'm going to a "city", I'd rather go to Vegas. That being said, give me majestic mountains or a beautiful beach.
