True or False: Thou Shalt Not Kill

With much respect for those who have faced this dilemma (and war in general), I do not posting this lightly.
How does one reconcile killing people while fighting in a war for their country vs their religious beliefs that opposes killing people.
Certainly appreciate belief in country, values, laws, etc. Respectfully suspect it is not that simple for those who face this.
Questions:
Is it that simple?
What does your religion say about it?
Why don’t religious leaders take a bold stance on war (eg, Pope and Russia-Ukraine, as an example only)
How does it feel when after years your country’s enemy becomes a friendly or an ally (eg, US and Japan)? Or Governments and those decision makers who may have corrupt intentions (profiting from war)?
Messy life stuff…interested in OT thinker thoughts.
Again, much appreciation and respect to those who have lived this!!!

Depends how well your government has trained you, in the moment. Afterwards I'm sure you're life is fricked, but we have no time to worry about our veterans now.

it really means thou shalt not murder. there is righteous killing and god says so in the bible.

I can only speculate that it gets a lot easier when your opponent is killing your friends and are trying to kill you as well.

One minute I am playing video games in a recruiting office, a couple of weeks later they move the video games to a shipping container, and a couple of years later I find out I have committed war crimes via drones.

That murder is a sin.

but who is to say a war is righteous or not? Certainly each side would think they are. certainly one would not be, if either.

Sometimes, some people just need to die.

The proper translation is Murder.
If you think God would hold it as a sin over you if your wife, or child, were being brutally raped and murdered, and you stepped in and shot the rapist/murderer, to save the life of your family, you're sorely mistaken.
Sometimes, we can use common sense and understand what God is saying in the Bible.

whichever side says that god is on their side. duh.
seriously, though. that's a difficult one. generally speaking, you'll be able to tell who the good side is by what they are fighting for.

I knew a guy who served in 'Nam. He said he had a real problem reconciling going to war yet not wanting to break God's law by killing someone.
His preacher told him that serving your country during wartime is not the same as murdering a man.

False.
Thou shalt not murder. The Bible is chock full of commands and/or permissions to kill both human and animal.

I’m already going to hell for wearing mixed fibers and eating shrimp.
When I go, I’ll be sure to take some trash with me on my way out
